might be time to get a footy thread going, seems like everything else is pol. incorrect or is feeding ammunition to the muppet brigade, carn the pies, fishing stories would be better but a lot of them are going to f/book because of the above I guess, sad set of circumstances

Yep
i have made that call for the last few years and although they may not have finished bottom 4 they certainly did not scare any of the big up and about teams. Mind you I am a pies supporter and things have gone pear shaped with our team since Buckley took the helm. Without lamumba and shaw across half back we may be cut to sheds throughout some of this years games.

Ahhhh...top four at least for me contains the Hawks, Freo, Port Adelaide, Sydney/Norths.....should see the Eagles make the 8, some promising signs at the end of last year. The spoon I think will be out of Saints and Melbourne...don't see the Dees doing much improving.

Adelaide will rise into the middle of the top eight this year. They only just missed out last year and lost games they should have won.
Walsh has injected some belief and Walker has now recovered/regained form from his knee injury. Midfield is stronger with the Crouch boys in particular Brad who has done a full preseason this time Some good pickups too.

And my top 8 Dark horse - GWS (about time now for the star studed youngster to stand up)
Woody to Essendoping - once the bans kick in I dont think they will be able to string enough victories together, and wont catch up once time served.
Other cellar dwellers will get more victories this year compared to last, and I DO hope Melbourne gets the most improved. Almost feel sorry for them now.
Let the laughter begin!!
PS havent realy looked at the picks etc but suspect this season will be alot tighter in the 8 than previous ones.

your right, he has. the guy clearly still has a major problem with meth, and unforunately he looks like nothing like his former self. lost a F*** load of weight! The photos of him, he is off his rocket.
time for the media to leave him alone, and not report every little incident (i.e the fall in the hospital),
its quite sad, this is still going on even when he has had kid or kids. Drugs have the guy hard, he has a major problem and its going to destroy his life, his families and others if he keeps going down the way he is.
what a fall from grace. you dont wish these kind of addictions on anyone or their family and alot of people wouldnt understand this unless they have experieinced it with either family or close friends.

I saw him at rottnest 12 months ago and he actually looked in really good shape. He was there with his young boy and appeared to be in a good space. Unfortunately the photos in today's media, he is a shadow of what I saw. so thin and gaunt. I hope for himself and his family's sake he pulls it together, but I fear that is nigh impossible now. :(

On a serious note I see they have made a retraction as has The Australian, reference was made to Crowley being the second player behind Tuck to test positive three times.

Don't know how this is connected to a three strikes policy???? someone has made a gaff reporting that. It's an asda match day test. they occur outside of the three strikes policy which is targeted towards recreational drugs.
it's apparent that he wants it dealt with by taking the provisional penalty. perhaps it is so minor he may only miss a few games. We won't know until the hearing.

Collingwood players never have dramas do they , seem to remember Alan Didac was in a car with a hells angel that was blasting away with his pistol of in metro Melbourne , that same bloke 4 days later viciously assaulted a woman and shot and killed two citizens in Melbourne , question why didn't Alan Didac go to the police and say "hey I met this bloke that is well out of control " at the time that bloke was wanted by both the Qld and Nsw police but no Adan did no wrong

Even if it was something as simple as a mersyndol or even an Oxy, they show up as an opiate in drug tests, pathology can ascertain wether that opiate came from a pain killer tablet or wether it was a shot of something more sinister. It costs a bit to do, but it will give you a yay or nay. But as the rules say, if you have it in your system, your gone, regardless. Just ask that bike rider dude.

Gas chromatography will ID the substance. If Codeine or even Tramadol he might get a reprimand. It IMO is hardly performance enhancing as it has sedating properties. Going up for a mark and falling asleep - LOL.
If S8 opioids he is in some strife IMO.

If its s8, and he has a prescription, he is probably more guilty of being stupid for not going to the club doctor....
I think the performance enhancement comes from being able to play through an injury that would normally keep you out of the game. similar to why such drugs are banned in horse racing. they mask the pain so the horse can run, but in doing so could lead to further injury, and in the case of horse racing may result in an animal being put down (not that I am suggesting Crowley be put down, although I am sure there are others who would prefer that to occur!)

Well, in the media yesterday that we'll respect afl doctor Peter Larkin said basically what I said in that's it's banned because the authorities don't want players playing through acute injuries and risking further / permanent injury. so while I don't disagree with you scenario, I am quite confident of my understanding as well :)
