Been on the cards for a while now. Apparently councils have had 3 yrs to get their acts together on this and nothing's been done so I guess the government has pulled rank. Let's hope it's only the heirachy in the councils that get a shake up not the workers on the street. I do a lot of work for City of South Perth and they are mostly good guys to work for and with.
Geraldton City and Greenough Shire amalgamated a few years back to improve efficiency and as a reward we got a 27% average rate increase last year, biggest in Aust by 4 fold.
this year they tried 8% but legal challenges got it to 2.5%.
Poor Colin got bashed on radio this morning .. main theme was apparently lying about council mergers during the election .. I'm not a full bottle but I would've thought it was a practical idea less red tape etc .. but seems lots of people are thilfy on him
Ask Gero, Greenough and Mullewa residents what they think of amalgamations. Promised a rate reduction if they all joined together and the very next year the rates went up 28% and would have gone up 14% this year if there wasn't a huge backlash that kept them down to 7%
It has been tried in Queensland with exactly the same result, no reduction but huge rises.
disagree-what goes round comes round. Do you want to have to produce ID everytime you want to access public facilities.
Would you like to have to pay to use public toilets/ramp/fillet table etc in another shire?
What about people who dont pay rates at all such as your children or granny in a nursing home?
I realise its extreme in maybe the Pilbara but the principal is the same.
And on top of it all collecting the money and distributing becomes its own beast-50% lost in administration etc
My Council (thieving pricks they are) dont charge anyone from Perth etc to launch or even to park for a week at the great facilities we have and Id hate the idea of someone dipping my wallet in Coral bay/Exmouth etc
You would find that most of the faclities you have meantioned would have been funded by general state revinue.
It's annoying when your local facilities are overcrowded with outa towners, then to top it off the faclity one wishes to use is booked out because there isn't enough to go around.
Win.............lose situation.
As for boat ramps, NO one should have to pay for launching, only overnight car/trailer storage and wash down falities. JMO
Interesting!! I had to take a worker into the hospital as he got zapped by dodgey power cables.
He had to wait a while to be seen due to a couple Grey Nomads in the Emergency Department. This time of year, Karratha has thousands of extra people around the region, and they do put a bit of strain on our limited facilities. I went to the Liquor shop to buy some goon and it was all sold out

When the WA public vote for a
When the WA public vote for a state government, we vote for a government to make decisions for the public. not quite a dictatorship.
very hard to have a referendum on every issue of importance.

Pretty simple
if you voted for 'Colin the Emporer' you just have to cop this on the chin.
Looks like he's going to change everything he can before the next election regardless of what anyone wants or has to say.

Go to most big cities overseas and this happened 20 years ago.

the reason 'nothing has been done'
is that apart from the state pollies and real estate developers
pretty much no-one wants it to happen.

Puts all the decisions
in "ONE" room.
No different than when the voting lines were re-drawn between the metro area and the SW here in WA. It's a numbers thing....
And, Recfish "WEST" as it should be, has all the reps in Perth and NO regional reps, no bloody different.

The only bug bear
, IMO, is when outer towners wish to use the facilities [sporting and the like] your town/shire have provided with your rates.
NO rate/ID card produced you pay a little more for the convenience.
