Formula 233

Hey guys, my old man and I are looking at selling our Seafarer Vagabond and buying a Formula 233 from Victoria and while I am convinced that they are the best thing since sliced bread after having sea trialed a few my Dad is less convinced, I was wondering if anyone on here has one that they would be willing for us to come and have a look at? or if you know someone who has? Ideally we would love a sea trial which I know is a bit of an ask but I should be able to throw in a pretty hefty discount on a service on your outboard if your keen :) Send me a message if you could help us out

Thanks Guys!!

Jonny

Happy to help

Hey Jonny...

Happy to help mate.

I'll be back in Australia around the 20th August and happy to help.

I have a 2013 Edencraft with twin 175 zukes. In my humble opinion these boats are simply the best hull on the market- period.

We've pass boats coming home like their sitting still and regularly get an extra hour fishing in before the rest of the boys arrive at the grounds.

Alan Ball is a legend and remains staunchly Australian made and with recent safety issues in WA boating, it gives me strong piece of mind knowing i have a fully sealed survey hull.

Send me your mobile and we'll square it off upon return.

Thanks mate, really appreciated!! we are looking at buying a hull only over there and fitting it with a 250hp Yamaha 4 stroke we have sitting on a stand, not ideal HP i know but will suffice until we can afford to add twins in a few years

Should be ok.

Sun, 2016-07-31 09:18

The hull wants more power than the twin 175's but i've heard the big singles have the torque to push them fairly well.

I'll max it out at refit time but still a long way off.

These boats are unbelievable. I'll never sell.

Send me a pm, i'll get it done. You bring the bait, i'll manage the rest. All good

There is a reason these hulls are so legendary. Got to be the most copied boat in existence.

Yeah I've been in a few when I was an apprentice, we used to fit twin 200HO E-Tecs, would get about 52knots out of them, it's more just to convince Dad that it's worth him getting one, anyone interested an a 6.2m seafarer vagabond?

I love the 233

Check out the white pointer marine 263. It gets a bloody good wrap too.

Also cootacraft have a new model out called the bad boy which is meant to be good too and your 250 should suffice until you wanna upgrade.

 Try Paul at Northshore boats

Sun, 2016-07-31 13:52

Try Paul at Northshore boats in Henderson. He built mine with a 350 Mercury diesel mounted under the console. Weighs 4 tonne on the water and cruises at 30 knots using 55 l/ hr

Excellent finish and Paul will customise anything you want

most copied hull in the world

Sun, 2016-07-31 15:59

some of the American c/c boats in the 21 to 25 foot range are based on the origional Formula 233 which was an American designed racing hull that Haines Hunter started making under licence in Australia    cheers Ace

I used to drive one a lot

Sun, 2016-07-31 19:24

I used to drive one a lot years ago.  It was built to survey as it was a water police boat.  Absolutely tbe best seagoing boat i have ever been on.  11.5 minutes from.north mole light house to phillip rock light house at rottnest one day .  Admittedly it had 400 hp on the back.  But safe and as comfortable as you can expect at about 40 kts in the ocean.

Their only down fall is the instability when stationary, but thats the trade off of a deep v narrow hull.

 Yep.  Twin 200's plus 450

Mon, 2016-08-01 18:15

Yep.  Twin 200's plus 450 litres of fuel plus built to survey so it was about 3/4" thick.  The weight in the arse end meant no matter how airborne you got, it came down arse first every time.  Top speed i ever got out of it was 49.7 knots on the river.

 Brilliant hulls my old boy

Tue, 2016-08-30 21:45

Brilliant hulls my old boy has a original Formula yank built running twin 225 Evinrudes, we had a Haines built Verision as well with a single 250 Merc  that was rebuilt with full foam core  internals two different weighted hulls and power options the heavier twin outboard is the better of the two.

No doubt Mark and Mel build

Wed, 2016-08-31 20:38

No doubt Mark and Mel build wicked craft at Cootacraft, but I wouldn't say they are the softest riding hull . There are a lot of flops around the land of OZ and Don Aranow was the the original Legend copied by many mastered by one!

Mabye..but seen a you tube

Wed, 2016-08-31 21:15

Mabye..but seen a you tube vid the the other day in which three guys and there boats [ Edencraft Cootacraft and Bass Strait ] were put to many tests and they all agreed the Coota was the softest riding boat of the three but because of its deep entry it became unstable and quite scary cutting into the oceans on a 45 degree angle. Lost a few points for that. They judged many things like fish ability room..layout..their ability to run twins.. Not sure they came up with a winner..they all had their good points and all were very good.

Hard to beat a Camcraft for

Wed, 2016-08-31 21:34

Hard to beat a Camcraft for all out soft ride. Certainly backed his product in the early days. Built them to run hard from fisheries while they chased him for ab poaching.
