Fremantle flathead

Thought I would post a picture of a fish for a change instead of my usual rude remarks.
Checked out the Leeuwin / Swan yacht club area this morning for flathead activity.
Did not appear to be much activity there at all. Caught a couple of just sized ones which were thrown back in, and one decent sized one (pictured) which came in at 51cms.
Although not that long it was quite wide and weighed in at 0.9 kg.
All flatheads were lethargic on the bite and on the runs; it was only just possible to differentiate them from clumps on seaweed being dragged in. Maybe due to the cold water ?
Hopefully things will warm up a bit in the near future.

Nice flattie. Big girl.
The best reason for doing what's right today is tomorrow.

Not sure now
Now I'm not sure anymore . When I first took it from the water I called it for a possible female because of it's proportions. But when I opened him/her up the roe was completely smooth and lacked the texture
that the eggs usually have. Now I'm thinking that I may not have identiified the roe correctly:- Maybe the smooth roe might in fact just be the female eggs at an early stage of development ? I don't know.
I've been trying to find out from the internet how to determine the sex of a flathead upon capture rather than on the filetting board.
Can anyone please tell me the foolproof way to identify the sex of a flathead upon capture, apart from the usual generalisation that the females appear to be fatter/wider
