19 is correct
technically speaking, as no rules have been given to the formula the correct answer is 19 (8+11 = 19) the examples sighted above are just noise
If it stated -
If 1+4 = 5
and 2+5 =12
and 3+6 = 21
then what does 8+11 = answer would equal 96
but it doesn't - it asks what 8+11 is.......... :-)

I worked out the pattern as:
(1 x 4) + 1 = 5
(2 × 5) + 2 = 12
(3 × 6) + 3 = 21
Therefore:
(8 × 11) + 8 = 96
Interested to know why so many are getting 40

8+11=19 but if you follow the sequence from the previous answers it is 40.
1+4=5, then 5+2+5=12, 12+3+6=21,21+8+11=40
thats how my brain works anyway, but ive had many bourbons so i could be wrong.
