fish and chips def tasted better way back , as mentioned local fish and the chips were made on premises from fresh spuds (my first job was cutting chips ) and cooked in solid fat or lard until it became so called unhealthy .

Chips and poppy seed roll
On the way home from the Saturday pictures afternoon we used to get 6 pence worth of chips and a poppy seed roll, bite the end of the roll pull all the bread out of the centre of the roll and stuff the cavity with chips. Now that was a meal, agree with the statement that all the fish and chip shops used to be owned by Greeks who really knew how to cook local sourced fish.
