The weather has been shit Rob.

If it's not the wind it's the swell.

Yesterday was the fist good day.

Howling northerly today, so the boats staying dry.

 Dhuvinile you can set all

Thu, 2014-10-02 11:57

Dhuvinile you can set all that up in your settings, you can set your range to watever increments you want. I think if you go into your menu and scroll down a drop down box will come up and it's all in there

 Dhuvinile all you do is

Thu, 2014-10-02 16:41

Dhuvinile all you do is adjust your range to like twenty when fishing deeper than 20 meters then use the shift function until the sounder picks up the bottom again. the smaller the range the more shifting you will have to do if the ground you are fishing is very undulating. it looks like Double J's range is set on 20. if you are in 40 meters and you adjust the range to 20 your sounder will stop reading until you use the shift function as Rob discribed. if you are in the forty meter range you would have to use the shift function and adjsut it to 25meters that way the bottom would be reading approximately 5meters of the bottom of your screen if that makes sense.

Faulty 585

Fri, 2014-12-05 08:11

I have a Furuno 585 (approx. 3 years old) always used properly and kept in top condition. All of a sudden, the high tension circuit faulted, and Taylor Marine quoted for a complete replacement circuit board - but for the same price as a brand new unit !!
Doesn't sound like the sort of quality/quality assurance everyone talks about with Furuno. Can't afford AUD $2,000, so I'm stuck ! Anyone else had a problem with the 585?

I've had a few probs with mine lately not wanting to switch on, then after a while no problem. Checked all the connections and back of unit plugs and all looks fine, hope it's not on it's way out.

Fingers crossed your unit is okay Andy but I had the same problem a few years ago and eventually the unit just wouldn't turn on in the end. I took mine to 'Ocean to Earth' in Bunbury who are great at repairing this sort of stuff but even they couldn't fix the problem in the main board. However they did say they could bypass the problem by hard wiring the unit in.

Sea conditions wouldn't treat any hard wired electronics kindly in my boat so I opted to spend the money and buy the new 587.

transducer

Mon, 2015-01-26 21:27

Do all the 585's come with 1kw transducer? Bought a boat with one just trying to work it out at the moment. How do you tell?

Cheers.

The transducer normally comes separately.
If its about the size of a small shoebox it will be a 1kw

Try these settings

Sun, 2015-02-01 16:28

Still tweaking mine all the time, but these settings work alright.

Pic advance:......2/1
Zoom mode:......Bottom lock
Shift:................Set to 0mtr change manually as you fish deeper
Interference:......Auto
Color erase:.......15%
Clutter:..............10%
White line:..........0%
Smoothing:.........On
Tvg:...................Med change to high after 100m
Tx power:...........Auto
Colors:...............16

tx rate 10

Hopefully some of the guru's can add a bit more input or tweak these settings some more.

Cheers

cool

Sun, 2015-02-01 17:44

Cheers hopefully head out next week. Its in auto range also.  Heard manual is better usually only up to 30 metres at the moment anyway. More complicated than the smaller color sounders. Guess it needs more fine tunning and hopefully gets some better results. But if anyone else has input would be great.
