IMO its pretty hard to tell what fish is what on a sounder screen mate, you can see good hard/coral ground with fish flairs, but you would be struggling to determine whether it was a decent dhu or another solid fish, some people claim they can tell and if so, than they are a better fisherman than me.

they can tell by the swim bladder. Apparently it shows a less dense colour. But I can certainly not prove this.

Interesting to hear others opions?

3 fathoms off the lump = Sambos!!

You can call "fish" off the sounder but you cant ID them anyone who says otherwise is kidding themselves

As stated by Rig good to see someone who has there sounder set up properly, Nice one Milsey.

Cheers Boomer

You may be right Boomer but

You may be right Boomer but I’m just going by what I’ve seen and caught, I’ve seen plenty of dhus diving that sit a couple of meters off the bottom and the above pic shows them only 2m off the top of the lump. I’ve found almost every time I’ve seen shows like the above I’ve caught XL dhus and most of the time I see perfect more solid returns I catch sambos or pinkies, as seen in the following pic.

To many variable aswell...a small fish on the sounder can be a big fish if its only just inside or on the edge off the sonar beam...could also be 50 meters away.

Should grab some pics

Thu, 2015-02-05 11:26

Should grab some pics actually, it's all individualised to your settings & colour palette etc. but for me Dhu's are a rounder blob in return with a less dense colour as mentioned by sandbar. In my experience I have seen what I interpret as Dhu's & dropped picking up dhu's, same with what I identify as Pinkie's & Sambo's etc. whilst proof in the pudding for me, other members have the same experience running different units on their boats which have also proven true.

Difficulty in seeking pics is that unless you are running all the same variables it's going to be different for you, if that makes sense?

I dont usually weigh in on

I dont usually weigh in on the sounder threads, but one thing I will put forward (imo) looking at a still photo of a sounder pic, (especially as regards what the bottom is) is similar to trying to tell what a movie is about from a single screenshot.
