Furuno FCV 585 Heads Up
Submitted by big john on Sun, 2009-06-21 18:39
Just giving the sounder a wipe down with some fresh water after a bit of spray hit it this weekend.
I noticed that two of the four screws attaching the back of the unit to the front had vibrated loose. Thankfully I dont over wet the unit so I'm hoping no moisture has got in the back. Touch wood!
Might be a good idea to check yours if you have the 585 or its little brother.

Screws
Good idea John.
I wouldnt worry too much about water entry from those screws. The 4 screws on the back are there to hold the backing plate on for the spindle mount.
If you flush mount you take the screws out, remove the back and then use them to fasten back down again. There is another backing piece underneath so no water should get in.

Nail Varnish
Put some over the screws, just a small amount enough to cover the head as it sets it should stop them coming loose, jersey

Silicon is a much better
Silicon is a much better adhesive to use. Firstly its a much better sealant, secondly its much more resistant to vibration and last but not least you dont upset your wife
