future purchases

Just wondering what everyone is thinking about purchasing reel wise in the next month or so, i was talking to another forum member today and this topic came up, would be interesting to know what people are wanting and how many people would be looking at the same reel etc.

cheers

I have two saltist 40s, the high speed and the normal retrieve models. Great reels. They are very strong and are great for casting. Great value for money overheads IMO.

Depending on what you want to use it for, buty it may be worth having a look at the Saltist 30 as well.

I love my saltist 30 and have given it a hiding on 3 seasons of sambo jigging! Great reel and hasnt missed a beat but the drags are shit. Upgrade to a set of carbonex drag washers to get it really singing or simply remove the original ones and wipe half the oil off them! IMO theres alittle too much on there and this alone wil increase the drag copacity alot. Cheers Spess, worth buying.

Were do i start, firstly i want a saltist 30 or 40, then a new bream reel ( might have to fight matt for the last luvias 2000), then a baitcast/driftbait reel still not decided which model, maybe a stella 20k for the up coming jig season and then rods to match them all! By the end of it i will be broke lol.

personally i would go the TH colin especially if you plan to jig with it and fish deeper water, and refer to spess's comments on the drags, they are a top reel but out the box drag isnt the best.need a little work

Saltist

Sat, 2008-07-05 08:35

I run a 40T with 300m of 50 lb braid , have fished the derwent no problems and landed over 150 Sambo's jigging with it , biggest fish would nudge 50 kg , just replaced the anti reverse bearing and gave the reel a stripdown and rebuild and the drag washers are still bog stock and still working ok , I can pull 11 kg's of drag off it on the scales I have here at home , one of the best reels I have owned.

I jig quite comfortably with the 40t most of the time a fast retreive isn't nessesary it's more how you work the jig that just trying to rip it up thru the water column.

JMHO   JMHO   JMHO

My next reel is a Emblem pro 5500, then a fin nor off shore 95, then a big Pfluger  spinner.

In a word

In a word - Yes. Once you start using this next level of reels its hard to go back.

Its like a choice between an old VW and a Porshe. Both will get you from point A to B but the more expensive one will just do it easier. Same for reels.

I've got both types Boofhead, IMO the new reels when fishing BRAID are the duck's nuts. However if your going to be fishing mono off it then the good quality $200-$250 spinners are fine.

john i've recently been changing to braid..... been hesitating at spending so much on a reel thinking it might not be worth it..... mind you once upon time many many moons ago i used to buy cheap rubbish and throw it when buggered and buy it again till i used better quality.... maybe its gunna be the same as from what i got now (penn 8500 6500etc) to stella or other top range.... i'll ponder over it for a bit and see
