Gemfish?

I caught this little fella yesterday and my first thought was that it looks like a gemie, only problem is I caught it in about 40m of water while jigging for snapper.
Someone suggested a barracouta, so I'm not to sure now.
If it helps it was caught off the nsw mid north coast.

good flattie and snapper bait.geez, ya water temp must be pretty cold to be getting them, or that thing is way lost
