Genesis 580 Sportscab

Thu, 2011-08-04 13:03

As many of the old forum members will know, I have had my 580 Genesis for over 10 years. Bought it new from the boat show in 2000.

Many forum deckies have fished from it and I dare say 100% would have been impressed by the ride for an ally boat.

With huge deckspace for its length and good size gunnels it is an awesome fishing vessel.

Since mine was built the guys at Genesis have fine tuned and refined the finish on the newer models making them a fantastic buy in my book.

If I had the money I would upgrade the engine before I would upgrade the hull. Of course if I had even more money I'd seriously consider another Genesis as an upgrade.

Is that creating your own floating "Jetty" to crab from in the Murray-Serpentine River mouth. I thought from a boat you drive to the pots and pull them. But that is so much my lazy style I just had to laugh. LOL

We've had our genesis for 3

Thu, 2011-08-04 14:10

We've had our genesis for 3 years now bought it second hand and it's a great ride and a nice roomy boat it's only a 5.2 but u can easily fish 3'people drifting out deep I guess I don't have to tell u how pissed off I was when I hit something on my last trip my favorite possession doesn't look like it used too I guess that's what happens when u hit something at 12 knts. It's hard seeing her parked up in the driveway every day when I get home. Oh well once she's fixed I'll be back out there until then I guess I'll have to get used to being deckie it sucks cutting bait and pulling the drift anchor but I guess that's the price u pay for a sPot on a boat. Bye the way welcome to the site genesis craft do u need a deckie :-)

I've been out in a few, the owners all seem to like the boats but Hayway seem to cop it a bit as a dealer.

One owner mentioned that they didn't get the boat the signed up for, it was missing parts when it came to delivery. A few more said that they fixed things themselves rather than bother taking things back repeatedly.
In my own dealings with them, I found that Challenge Marine always quoted a better prices for merc parts.

Think is is about 12 years old

Reasonable for a ali tub... Not the nicest of rides but then it is light...Gets me most of where I would like to go on most days. If there is one fault it would be that it seems to sit slightly stb side down with nothing on it. I dont know if this is due to everything being run on that side when it was fitted out or what.

Great dive boat for 2 divers though.

I have a 6.4 semi hard top ,

Fri, 2011-08-05 20:31

I have a 6.4 semi hard top , and i think it's great . But i have only had it a couple of months , been looking at them for a while and when this one come up i grabbed it . Looked at all the other similar boats and the Gensis came out on top for what i wanted in aboat and cost was pretty good . Think the best advice given to me was work out what you really want in a boat and find one that fits .

I have an 2006 6.1m XL Cuddy. Picked it up second hand about 12 months ago. Rides well, very stable, and dry. Heaps of room in the back for fishing or diving. I'm very happy with it.

Good to see everyone likes their boats. We would love to hear some good stories involving fishing trips etc. on a Genesis if anyone has one.... WADRay just out of curiosity you know a tournament is a completely different boat to a Genesis right???

I've got a 4.5 side console - the guy that sold it to me said it was a Genesis so I'll go with that.

I'm probably not the best judge as its my first boat but I love it, its perfect for what I want.

Sweet paint job too, (go on, I've heard all the jokes).

Yup

your right fishfish this is the new owner's Paul still pops his head in everynow and then and says G'day!!
The tournaments do look very similar smithy but are a very different boat when you start looking closely. The Genesis design is a very popular look so other companies used that look (and the same architect) when designing their product that's all....

Welding

Wed, 2011-08-10 14:08

When I was looking around for a new boat about 4 years back I had a good look at the Genesis craft, and they did look pretty good.

The thing that turned me off however was the fact that all of the welds were bogged over before painting. They looked neat but for all I knew they were full of cocky shit welds. Call me old fashioned but I like being able to look at any weld on my vessel and be happy with it.

Yeah thought you were working there, Paul did a 7m hardtop plate with a few custom bits a few years ago and has just finished the 9 x 3m about a month ago pretty sure you will remember it !!!!

Big john none of the welds on my boats have been ground and you would call them !@#$ing unbelievable if you saw them, robot like almost especially the new one !!

If I could add photos to this thread I would ...

definitely remember that one fish fish was it yours? its a monster!!! big john what people don't realise when they're buying a Genesis is that your more than welcome to call up and organise to come into the workshop for a look at the way we build our boats alot of people are 'old fashioned' like yourself and like to see the quality before its painted over. The bog just gives it a nice finish thats all. I'm like you and want to make sure the boat is well built first. I had my own Genesis bogged but I did every weld myself so I knew that they were perfect :) :)
