Getting someone to eat fish

Okay, now this might seem really strange as I really love fishing but I don't actually eat any seafood at all.  This frustrates Wade to no end (as its not top of my list to cook as it means I have to cook 2 meals).    I also hate the smell.

I am not allergic to seafood, was just told a story by my old man when I was about 3 years old that fish fingers were made of blood, guts, scales, brains, eyes etc.  Now I know thats absolute bull but it mentally tarnished my view on seafood (as at 3yrs old everything your old man says is gospel) and I can't seem to eat any seafood now, 25 years later!  I have even caught decent fish, watched it being scaled, cooked and still can't eat it.  I tried crays and marron last year and still couldn't get it down.  At work in the mine mess I've eaten tuna vol au vents without realising and it was okay until I realised then my body pretended it felt sick.....yes I know what you are thinking.....Toughen up princess.

So, I'm thinking of getting hypnotised to get over this pathetic issue.  Does anyone have any suggestions of good hypnotists NOR or any experiences of getting over an eating issue?

Just try a little nibble, even if you close your eyes and pinch your nose.
Another thought is to try acupuncture, ask them over the phone if there is a way they can do it,if they can't it hasn't cost you anything.

Your old man was probably closer to the truth than you care to imagine.  Hypnotism sounds like a viable solution as long as you don't ask them to tell the truth.  Wink

why force yourself?

If you don't or can't eat seafood, big deal? You aren't the only angler I know that doesn't eat seafood.

IMO it's a waste of money trying to "fix" an issue that isn't a medical threat or going to cause you any problems. Have a steak or a rack of lamb instead, I dont see the problem......

Thanks everyone for your

Thanks everyone for your comments.  I have actually tried little bits and closed my eyes and pretended it was something else but still didn't happen for me, thats why I want to deal with the root cause of the problem which is my brain.

I would really like to eat seafood, so its not a choice of just not bothering.  It will expand my choices when I go to restaurants, allow me to eat the fresh catch of the day at home, experiment with different cooking techniques etc.  Seafood is also really good for you and I'm missing out on all those omega 3's (pumpkin seeds just dont cut it!).

I will let you know how I go when I find a hypnotist!

Similar Problem

Thu, 2009-11-19 21:54

Just recently when I was about 19 *cough cough* well about 30 odd years ago or so I had seafood poisoning after eating a dodgy or badly cooked crab from Mandurah... 4 days in bed and only time I moved was to OHHHH won't give details LOL. Point is I haven't been able to eat shellfish since and have only just started eating small amounts of fish recently.

Missus loves her seafood and if I break one of her prawns in half and try to eat it I swear it comes to life and crawls back up my throat all by itself!!!!!

Even though I can't eat it I love the thrill of the catch, the smell of freshly cooked seafood and watching others eating a fresh catch.

Claire, Our condition reminds me of a sticker I saw today "Fun not Fillets" but then again when it comes to my family it's "Fillets not Fun".

Cheers,
David
