Giant Swell down South
Submitted by Buz on Tue, 2012-04-03 22:26
Just wondering if anyone is down the Margaret River/Augusta Way tomorrow, get some pics of what the coast looks like. I havent ever seen a swell that is predicted to be +7.5m down there before. Might make for some good pictures for the Amatuer Camera Crew.

was rough, wet, windy....
So didn't wet a line, just cruised up the coast having a peak here and there on the way back home.
Wouldn't really call it a 7.5m swell though, more like 5m i reckon. Should mellow out by Saturday evening.
Those coming down this way over easter take care, lives are lost off the rocks here every year, I'd hate to hear that a fellow fishwrecker of getting washed off some rocks chasing fish.

What do mean predicted?
it was 6.7m down here on monday and is over 6m again today.
If my memory serves me right i've seen the Nat bouy read over 8m before. BIG!

I meant i havent seen a swell
I meant i havent seen a swell 7.5m at Cosy Corner in April before. Seen plenty of times over the last 20 years it has gone over 7m at Margs, Gracetown and Canals mainly during big winter storms in June, July, August. Just hadnt seen the likes down further at this time of year is all.

Could be
a sign of an angry winter this year. We're due for a wet one.
Hopefully the next mega swell has some more favourable winds with it providing at least some wave opportunities.

that swell doesnt peak till
that swell doesnt peak till late this arvo. the centre of that storm is 15m+ the swell charts are insane! looks like tassie is going to be very very big. if anyone goes out on the rocks anywhere south of naturaliste before sunday they are a fool indeed. unfortunately some dickhead always does. usually some jerry going for skippy on his jarvis walker, a few more fatalities and were gonna get shutout of these spots. not saying that experienced guys dont go in but more often than not its the holiday crew. best of luck to all who go down and stay safe!!!!
