Gnaraloo 2019 report
So many times heading up that way we all pray to the weather gods for at least 3 days of good fishing weather. Well the prayers were answered this trip and we walked into 6 days straight of awesome weather, and fished them all.
Day one:
Out to the 65m mark and it was a very slow morning with only the two Rankins on baord till around 2pm then the Reds came on the bite and nailed 4 good fish around 5kg each.
And wings for the BBQ washed down with a Chardy = livin.
Heads were kept for a Vietnamese friend of mine.
Day two:
Sunday probably the worst for the trip, 8 hours on the water for one Spanglie had a us scratching our heads wondering what we were doing wrong, but was heartening talking to ther blokes up there that they weren't faring much better.
Day Three:
Monday, slow again with a few bits and Pieces until I decided to mix things up a bit and start floating some mulies, within 5 minutes it was action stations as we nailed two 15kg Spaniards and a smaller model.
Day 4:
Tuesday:
Beautiful weather again saw us going wide and trying lots of spots for not much, once again a few bits a pieces until this beast hit my bait in 70m which I took for another gear destroying shark, when I saw him 20m down my hear lifted and I prayed he was under the magical metre. He came in at 997mm and just over 16kg. So happy not have to put him back over the side and try to release.
Day 5:
Wednesday, so it was forecast a glass off and it truly did. We had been talking to the lads next door who had been fishing out in the 100m mark so though I'd give it a crack. It's nigh on 37km so thought we'd stop in 65m first for a drop. First drop good fish dropped second drop shark so the mind was made up head for the 100's. Literally threw a dart at it with no marks and telling the boys to prey for any sort of flare up. So first drop within a minute I was on and my first ever GoldBand, it was then on for young and old with fish after fish. Double header's and just a good all round assortment, we'd finally found the honey hole. That bit of ground is now well marked each end, funny thing was nothing showed on the sounder but it was loaded. Left em on the chew so to speak after bagging out.
Day 6:
Weather not so kind but still a couple of finishing fish for the bag and time to rest up a couple of days and drink the beer stocks ;)
As mentioned on antother thread the track snapped the rear cross members of my trailer so had the ratchet strap it all together and get home on a wing and a prayer.
Onwards to 2020!

Awsome work Andy..how goods that Cod!
Few things there ring true...nothing worse when you start doubting your sounder...Floating Mulie will never let you down...how many times it's fish on but sounder is bare..lol
Edit...when in doubt.. go deeper :)..

catch up
Was good to meet up with you and finally put a face to the name.
Looks like a reasonable trip overall with a couple of down days in the middle as far as catches went but the good days made up for it.

Lol came up a carton short.
Lol came up a carton short. Didn't allow for the excitement factor on the track in, did a carton of chooks in an hour and a half. $5 a can at 3 mile camp, care factor nil , we needed beers.

very good !
I think the fish may have been a bit deeper this year but at least the sharks were manageable.
The close in ground certainly was hard to find with sand movement.
We pulled stumps half way through our planned stay as a result of constant issues bugga.
Good to see you guys up there, we are looking at a second crack in a few months in Sept. - with issues sorted fingers crossed..

Yeah good to see you up
Yeah good to see you up there mate, shame about your eye.
That boat retrieval was something to behold lol, but I'm still wondering how you launch? Same process in reverse?
At least you got a couple of decent fish mate and I'm sure Samuel and your dad enjoyed themselves.

haha
yeah practice makes perfect! Thats where the drop down wheel comes into it's own.
opposite to launch just need to be handy at reversing up a sand dune... then getting it off the hitch when both not level.
usually launch with someone in the boat - gives my old boy a rush when he's up as its eaier to get him in on dry land haha.
may look dodgy but does the trick.

Cheers Bruce, we got in
Cheers Bruce, we got in there Friday 24th May - 2nd June. It's looking pretty average up there at the moment but they'll be loving the rain. The only time we saw Paul the mad Irish owner was drifting sideways on the track doing about 130km/h lol.
