Yep, just did some reading and I think you're right mate that's something I wasn't aware of thanks for the heads up! Im guessing you could however film in NTSC @ 60fps and export in .mp4 using h.264 encoding keeping the 60fps and would be fine on a PC or on youtube etc?
As far as I know PAL / NTSC is only going to be an issue when exporting to DVD format as DVD players are region based and would need to be in PAL format where as PC's can play either format fine? Also If you're going to export to PAL DVD there's not much point filming in 1080p or even 720p as PAL DVD is only 576 x 720 resolution while 1080p / 720p are much higher resolutions at 1920 x 1080 and 1280 x 720...
I could be completely wrong though! Be interested to know if anyone out there knows more about this?
Good point by Milsey on the battery issue as well, 60fps definitely drains the battery a lot quicker but is awesome for catching an unexpected fish jump or spearfishing etc! I've found battery drain to be pretty bad even on 30fps, got a wall charger and some spare batteries pretty cheap off ebay definitely worth looking into if you use your GoPro a lot!
After a bit more reading looks like PAL / NTSC only relates to DVD format as I thought and not HD formats. So makes no differance which format you choose on PC's, almost all TV's will play both formats, Australian DVD players can play either format and the only time it would matter is if you where sending it in to be broadcast on TV...
However, Vinesh87 is spot on with the PAL @ 50fps and NTSC @ 60fps. So if like me you set your GoPro to film in PAL thinking thats our local format you're actually only filming @ 50fps and should set your GoPro to film in NTSC and use NTSC format all the way through editing to get the full 60fps.
So thanks heaps for that info mate, just scored me an extra 10fps on all my future vids! :)
I usually run 1080 on 60fps, if im wanting to use twixor or super slow-mo ill bump up the frame rate and if filming fishing of somthing that wont need slow-mo ill just use 30fps as the battery lasts heaps longer. Also if your using a program that can edit colours and contrast dont worry about pro-tune, i dont really like it and it kills the battery.
I am a complete amateur with the gopro and used it for the first time on Monday (black hero 3).
I thought I chose film but when I played it later on, it only filmed for about 1-2 seconds, then paused for about half a second, then played for 1-2 seconds, paused and so so and so on.
Any idea what setting it needs to be on to fix this?
Just checked the camera and it was on a resolution of 1440 and 48fps. Just changed to 1080 and 60fps so will give that a try.
mungus, how did you go about the firmware upgrade? I'll hopefully try it out on a dive in the morning but if the change of res and frame rate doesn't work, will go the upgrade as well.
Spent 700 bucks plus to get go pro 3 black with some extra stuff few months ago. It's the most technological thing I've bought for years. Can't use the bloody thing as everything in my house can't run it:) still wondering if I should buy a new laptop with enough power to run it. I guess if you fall behind in technology it will bite you in the ass these days. Can't even update the firmware from my comp. my tv hasn't even got a plug to watch the bloody thing, so had to buy a LCD screen to use the damn gopro;).
Thought I got got a dodgy camera after reading on the forums, took it back to the retailer and he plugged it into one of the demo laptops and it was sweet. So my problem with the stop start thing was my lap top.
also I couldn't update my go pro and it works fine, so do I still need to do it? May be the newer released ones has a few of the bugs ironed out.

1080p 60fps
If you've got a black edition its hard to beat 1080p with 60fps, gives you the option of decent slow motion when editing.

Pretty sure you can't run
Pretty sure you can't run 1080 @ 60fps ? Its only NTSC @60 and max 50fps @ PAL?
Or does it not matter anymore like it use too ?
Happy to be proved wrong but!

memory card
Just a thought.. is your memory card in the gopro a class10 (high speed)?
and does it have sufficient space to record
if not maybe the card can't keep up with the video input..
just a thought..
good luck
