Its not huge and the redfin

Its not huge and the redfin are generally not large but i have now seen evidence that there are some big ones there. The pond would be about 500 metres long and 1-200 metres wide ( only a guess ) The water is reallt clear and is great for sight fishing and snorkelling in the middle it gets really deep and it has a very thick weed in the bottom but there are channel like paths through the weed i think thats why the fish do well... You will also find marron there if you look or fish for them...

And yes im going to post some pics coz i got a couple of good redfin in what were more like knee deep mud ponds in the nearly dry lefroy brook... one of them was my PB redfin and one was my smallest... all around a kilo and one a bit bigger and i was amazed because ive only ever seen trout in there but because it was almost dry the trout had gone downstream into the big brook dam but the redfin had just stayed there. Despite the fact that i said the trout would have gone downstream i did still see two trout in various spots picking off bugs from the surface.

same here Y Yakker  mine my most productive ever there is a halco RMG scorpion in the brown trout pattern. most of the redfin i get there are 20cms or there about and occasionally you see some big ones its really good for sight fishing because its so clear. i tried worms there a couple of weeks ago and they just kept sucking them off so i tried a couple of lures and got all my reddies on the good old halco RMG brown trout pattern

I think we are thinking

Wed, 2010-01-20 15:21

I think we are thinking about different places young_yakker haha. The place im talking about is about 10 ks out of balingup. Are you thinking about where you went on christmass day? because if you are thats just a pool on the balingup brook.

The place im thinking of is an old mill town. But the mill shut down which made everybody leave the town. The town was called Grimwade and they had a pond which is still there so they called it grimwade millpond. Its sighnposted from balingup and its worth a look if you go through that way. There are still old house pads and gardens and everything but the houses are gone. We walked through there once and found the site of and old house walked throgh the bush near it and found an old tree house it was pretty cool.

Correct me if i'm wrong i dont know that you arent thinking of the same place as me its just i remember a bridge in balingup but i dont know of any bridge at grimwade millpond.

Cheers, redfin 4 life

Sounds like you had a good time R4life

I still havent got down there yet as i am in the middle of paving after the patio went up. Looking forward to seeing trout rising cause that means I can fish a dry fly which is my favorite.Nothing like casting a dry to a big rising brown & seeing him come up to inspect it before either gulping it down or refusing it. Either way the adrenalin pumps in, mate.

No idea what happened there sorry about that

Fri, 2010-01-29 10:08

Yea fished big brook dam a fair bit. Great for trout fishing with fly's or lures. I went there a couple of weeks ago camped near there at a place called big brook arboretum. The arboretum's right on the lefroy brook whick is almost dry now. I got 4 redfin there 1 to 1.3 kilos each. Got a nice rainbow at the bridge where water flows into the dam. You ever been down there?

And i dont think it has been reopened...
