How to hook live-bait

Hey guys i was just wondering how people hook their live baits when chasing redfin... I can do it with worms but im not sure about minnows. So i was just wondering if anyone could tell me how to get them on the hook so that they stay there and dont die while being hooked...

I have seen some people rig them through the bottom jaw then put them out under a small blob seemed to work a treat.

Do the same technique when live baiting with minnows in the freshwater. Works really well, on Trout, Redfin and even Bream.

Size 8

I usually use Mustad Long Baitholder size 8. More because i can also use this hook to chuck a worm/grasshopper/shrimp on if the minnows are not working.

I usually just use my little fine mesh landing net to scoop around in the shallows to get minnows and freshwtaer shrimp. Not as fun as using lures i find, but definitly get better results using livies.

I just suspend it under one of those little red and white plastic floats you can get that have the little spring activated mechanism on them to attach it to a tiny swivel.

Hope this helps.

i dont know exactly know

i dont know exactly know what type of "minnow" they are all i knoe is that they are effective. Although i havnt yet caught a fish on live bait... but i have only tried live minnows once for about 5 mins but was distracted when my cousin started chauling them in usong lures. When i brought the minnow in it was dead... thats part of the reason why i needed to know where/how to hook them...

Thanks guys

Many types

Many types of minnows i use. Basically whatever is already in the waterway, so as not to spread any non-natives into new waterways e.g Gambusia. But also use Western Galaxia, Western Pygmy Perch. You will be suprised at how many of them you can pick up with just one scoop through the weedy looking areas on the river/creek banks.

I actaully breed Gambusia and Western Pygmy Perch at my house. Perch for fun, Gambusia to feed my pet redfin in my tank.

I have found that by hooking through the bottom jaw(as if you actually caught them) they last for quiet a while. Cast them right in amongst a snag and something hungry will usually take them.

When you say you hook them through the bottom jaw do you just go into the mouth a tiny bit and out the bottom jaw?
