GTs and Marlin in Carnarvon

Going to be fishing Carnarvon for the first time in a couple of weeks, and not really sure what to expect.

Have had a quick look at charts, but just wanting an idea as to what to chase. Do people pop for GTs around the islands with much success? Also I know I have seen posts of Marlin caught around Koks etc, but is this a common occurrence? Or more just good luck?

Just dont want to spend a heap of time trolling (or casting) for nothing. Looking at the charts it seems you need to go a really long way to find some deep dropoffs, so thinking marlin not a prime target.

Any help appreciated!

Dan

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:

n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or

n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Marlin

One or two boats have gone wide chasing marlin but only with limited success, as you said, mainly hit or miss with more misses than hits.

Havent heard of anyone chasing Gts but that doesn't mean that hey are not there, certainly lots of ground that should hold them.

 Have had some good results

Have had some good results on small marlin around 40 to 100k. Mostly 50 to 80 meters. Have seen sme sort of action most times we've put lures out. Plenty of white water around islands to have a go for gts and the like.you will never know if you don't try.
