Guest's online - A question for those in the know

Whenever I see this column with say 95 users and 2500 odd guest I always wonder why they dont join in this great site. Are they mostly automatic bots (whatever you call them) or are they actual people looking, not joining. Seems a hell off a lot of them.

I was a reader for a year or
I was a reader for a year or two before posting. Originally was looking for fishing reports to find out what's being caught and where.

It's the same on many sites. There are a lot more people that get what they need by reading rather than posting. Plus as you mention, there is a large bot population for all the different search engines.

Tah guys
Was always wondering, and thanks for telling this "not so techno" person the word Bots.
Can visitors use the search engine on here? Certainly a wealth of info on there to use.

You can search the site from
You can search the site from google by entering your search term and at the end put site:fishwrecked.com and it will only show results from this site. Works for any other site you want to search specifically as well.
If you log out you can try using the search bar here if it shows up then guests can probably research here as well. I find the search on google better as the results are a bit better formatted.

You can also directly
You can also directly backtrack every post another member has ever made in their profile .. is that typical of forums to be able to do that ?

The track function is pretty
The track function is pretty standard on forums. Not sure I would refer to it as a stalking function. Heck, even your social media accounts do the same thing.
I guess it's the old 'if you wouldn't say it to someone's face don't say it on a forum either' rule.
If you mean is it a good way to try and tie some info together about a type of fishing then I think it is a great tool. Some of the best fisho's on this site provide valuable info if you look hard or read back over previous posts. It's also a good way to see what was biting or what type of fishing is good at certain times of the year. You might not have their co-ordinates but you might be able to pick up if they went north or south or what depth as examples.

Beat me to it
Beat me to it zOOm , wouldn't call it a stalking feature as you have said above. Can be very handy to find info.
It can also help to sort out Trolls from real members by looking at how active they are, and the type of threads the start or comment on .

Bugger I suppose I’ll have
Bugger I suppose I’ll have to start contributing informative intellectual posts .. historically as it stands quite a few hits come up when the words chris raff and wanchor are used when searching

Here is a clasic
Here is a classic example. This post came up http://fishwrecked.com/forum/land-based-snapper-blood-bath
And I thought is was sus straight away. I checked the members history and been a long time member with no posts for a few years. Then he posted the above thread.
Looking at his history, I chose not to comment and sat back to watch other members call him out.

I use the tracker when
I use the tracker when someone comes on asking for spot advice . A quick look at posting history soon tells if it's someone that has helped others or even what style of fishing they are likely to do.
No point pm'ing someone Exmouth advice when their history shows 20 threads they have started with the same question.
