By the looks of it, 'only' the interior was gutted and reports say the owners are bringing in structural engineers to check the soundness of the facade / shell. Yes, I do hope they can save it - it's a landmark and beautiful old building.
I've not seen any results on the cause investigation yet.
No doubt that will come out in the wash.

I will miss it too, use to be one of my watering holes and WAS one of my Daughters now she's of age , they use to go every thursday night , each had their turn at being the designated driver etc .
Hopefully it will get rebuilt , I see the bottlo at the back wasn't destroyed so they may still run that while they make a up their minds on what to do with it.
The couple that went in Midland got dozed or are sitting there waiting to either fall down or get re built, Building a new building would probably be cheaper than restoring the old place.
I agree Rod, apparently(as reported), there were some priceless painting and (as you said) other memorabilia that was lost - they can't be replaced and even if they do rebuild the internals, 100 year old wood work and features can, at best, only be reproduced. Still, better that than to replace it with some modern sterile building with no character.
There'll be a lot of very sad Guildford folks, that's for sure.

The rear of that building was structually unstable as it was .Iwas told by them yesterday that there hoping to save the front facard of the building and rebuild off that i had lunch at the woodbridge tavern yesterday and they said they had an electrical fire in their kitchen not long ago and if it hadnt have happened during the day the Woodbrige tavern would have been gone to CHEERS SHAG
i remember the Stockman in Midland went up in flames some years ago. My father was part of the furniture at the Woodbridge for years - and the Guildford and the High Wycombe and the Kalamunda pub - in fact that caught fire when he was living there. Shame that it happens to such nice old buildings.

It's the irreplaceable pictures and artifacts that upsets me the most !!!!!!
