Haines Hunter 565 L

Hi Guys

I'm tossing up to sell my current boat - Quintrex Oceansport 600 with a Honda 115 four stroke to purchase a Haines Hunter 565 L. I've always owned glass boats and after selling both last year made a quick decision ot buy the Quinnie - been out in it a few times and am not overly taken with the ali ride compared to the glass, even with the Millenium hull - though I'm loving the Honda 4 stroke!

So the question is does/has anyone owned or been a regular user/passenger of a HH565L. To some it maybe a step backward but to a degree I'm also interested in reducing the number of dollars I've got tied up in my choice of boats but then purchasing an older boat that does the job for the amount of fishing I'm getting to do.

Certainly appreciate your thoughts on this topic. Cheers

Haines

Hey mate, can understand liking the ride of the glass boats better.  We currently have a 6.5m plate which we replaced our haines hunter 580 with.  The ally's have the ability for the better decks, however the glass was a much better ride.

My thoughts, having had 2 Haines Hunters - 580 breeze and 560SF, I love the boats.  I believe you would really want to consider a 4 stroke on one, the e-techs may be ok (we haveon the ally), but with the heavier boat I would bethinking the 4 stroke.  Also one which I have noticed with the hunters, trim tabs are a brilliant invention - the transon doesnt lend itself well to standard one, but the QL trims are great, well worth the extra.

Good luck with it!

Much appreciated for your comments Wild... yeah its not easy to have made a choice that you may regret then face up to it! I know the Haines are really well rated as much as boats go. I'm interested in your comments relating to the trim tabs- I've heard of them and read comments - any theories why they seem to be so good on the Haines?  Would it be a recognised issue that Haines should look at in their hull design or just that much better when they're on- appreciate your thoughts

I have a Haines Hunter , and

I have a Haines Hunter , and think it would well benefit from trim tabs, though I have none fitted.

They are quite a sharp deadrise so it's got to be a trade off , better ride but can tip into the wind a bit. I've just shifted people around , but its a poor substitute.

It's not just Haines hulls that want them.

Now thats a weapon - I'd love a fibreglass missile like that - what powerplant do you have on it Johno & Grayzeee can you give me an idea of the model your currently into ( should check your profile I guess) but that doesn't get interaction does it?  Thanks for the feedback fellas - sorely tempted - though it could result in divorce which may end up being a win/win situation, LOL - lots more boating, fishing time & time to spend tweaking the systems on the boat as you go. Yeah I think I'll advertise the Quinnie and see if there's any interest.

Trim tabs will work on any

Trim tabs will work on any boat. They will enable you to use the V Hull to ride softer than falling on its flat single side.(hope that makes sense).

Love the Haines but i do also like the Quinnie. I think you'll notice the size difference will be the biggest part. Deck space and width.

Hi perryMy family has a 565L

Hi perry

My family has a 565L in Sydney great hull  powered by a 140 four stroke cruises mid low 20 knots 21 degree deep v with a small planing plank on the hull doesnt do a lot though helps with lift out of the hole and when on the pegs and trimmed helps the hull to sit up a little more. The plank is not big enough for my liking to be of any real advantage these hulls handle 25 knt winds 2-3 mtr swell no problems at all little more horsepower would be nice though .

I think from memory they were only rated to 150 hp weighed around 800 kg when they were first built in the early eighties by the two brothers John & Greg haines who founded Haines Hunter. they have 3 19 mm Ply encapsulated stringers each side and a keel stringer floors are 17 mm ply with 2 sheets 17 mm ply in the transom if the rig has not been rebuilt check it out thoroughly majority of them now have rotten internals and a glass shop will charge you in excess of $ 8,000 for a full rebuild you will find the usual star crazes in the gel or coaming through the paint no big issue on a older boat just a sign of flexing.

In the late eighties Haines went through a revamp and discontinued this model along with the 600R V19R V17L V17R and V16R the moulds  were then sold to Eden Craft who still build them to this day little has changed except for the addition of pods and more attention to detail in build quality if i can help with any other info pm me mate.

I have the 565F, love it to bits, dry ride, 115hp 4 stroke with 140l. Can do a lot of miles, a 140 4 stroke suzi would be perfect to get a few extra knots when the conditions are good. Does 31 wot and cruises mid twenties. Few little things cold be improved, but damn sturdy bit of boat.

Thanks Adam - I didn't realise yours was a 565 - but the F is the centre console configuration isn't it. I appreciate all the feedback people have been giving me- anyone like to add  comment on how the boat sits at rest ? There'll be a few things to do to bring her up to a spec that I'm happy with but it looks promising all the same.
