Hand feed blue fin tuna
While back in South Aus a little while ago in Port Lincoln went out to a tourist style tuna farm, no where near as full with tuna as the working farms but still good to hand feed some fish and go for a snorkel with them too.
The actual pen is identical to the working farms just not loaded with anywhere near as many or as big fish.
Excuse my butt crack , fiesty little buggers, one kid got his toes bit while he was snorkelling with them, blood everywhere, must have looked like a nice little pilchard to them.
Heres an underwater shot...bluefing tuna doin their thing.
And then one of me swimming with em, toes and fingers tucked away so they dont become lunch! haha, everyone was swiming like that after that kid got attacked! quite funny to watch.
After we had some tuna sushi for lunch on the boat ride back into town, bloody beautifal! Thanks for viewing.

I have seen that on TV Pretty cool
I wonder what would happen if you snuck a small handline in with you and swam around with a lure on the end of it?

hehe, yeah....
They dont sell to the public ganged, they have "bigger fish to fry" sell em to the japanese for mega bucks per fish, the rejects get sold to john west who has a cannery there.
Private boats are not allowed within 50 metres of the farms, they have marker bouys, as a teenager in my tinny i used to go out, anchor at the markers and catch wild blue fin tuna that would hang around eating the bait that would fall through the nets.
Great fun catching big tuna in a 11 foot tinny, would normally get say 2-4 fish a day that way. the farms used to be right in the bay, maybe 2 kms out, big contraversy about them attracting great white sharks into the bay where locals swim etc.

Pics
Looks interesting Kane.
Did any of you guys see the pics of the gameboat in the states that crashed into and ended up inside a large net full of tuna being towed to port by mexican fisherman? Think it was last year sometime.
Bloody insane.

Great pics Kane
I'm going to Pt Lincoln next april (2009) to do a bit of Tuna fishing on the other side of Boston Isl. around the fish farms, Was also thinking of going for a swim in the pens as well - I will now make sure I take wet suit booties if I do!! - won't be wriggling my fingers either!
Cheers

Thatll be great Paul, youll have a ball...theyre a great fight,
If you get a chance should go down to coffins bay national park (my favourite spot down there) can either take the 4x4 around or launch the boat at the ramp at coffins and head around or we used to beach launch at farm beach and head out from there.
Excellent fishng out in that area and can easily find protected spots if the weathers not playing the game.
Have a good one mate.
