Harlequin fish

caught a harlequin today.  Checked the regs to ensure it was legal but found it to be quite ambiguous.  It is listed with cods and there is only a minimum size listed for estuary cod @ 400 and breaksea @ 300. I am assuming, dangerous I know, that there is no legal size for them  It measured 450 so was a good size but I hate not being sure so it went back.. Can someone clarify for me. Cheers

No , you are on the money , its not ambiguous to me , says right there , harlequin , under cods

no size limit , 2 each allowed on the west coast bi region.

They must know , if most fishers are out there , and catch a baby one  -300mm , your going to put it back

( with your release wieght , you are conpelled to carry of course) and the good thing is if you say get a 400+ one

and its blown up , at least you can keep it.

Only a opinion , the last one i got , i wasnt super impressed with it on the chew , but in general , they are highly reguarded.

yep that's how I read it. Even at 450 its not a big fish, much better options to chase. First one I have caught for some time but as I remember them they are a tad on the soft mushy side but better than a poke in the eye on a slow day. Thanks for the input

Wont be suprised to see a size on them with the next regs. Recently added to the bag limit. I get excited when one comes up, top eating

They have always been in the bag limit and in the regulations as a cod, they have just been named seperatly in the guide so there is no misunderstanding.  Unless there is a change to the actual regulations (fish resources management regulations 1995), they will remain unsized.

funny how opinions differ?  Especially what tastes good and what doesnt. Thats why wea are all different i suppose. But I also throw them back if I am not sure because I would rather do that than risk a fine. Good job mate
