Heavy Duty Baitcaster

Looking to purchase a heavy duty baitcaster that will run PE3. Will be used for cast and retrieve lure fishing, trolling and live baiting.

Currently thinking about a TD Pluton 200H or a Millionaire Blue Backer 300.

Anyone gots any thoughts on these or another reel that might fit the bill?

maybe consider

Daiwa Luna 300, Calcutta 700 and Penn International 975LD.

For live baiting at least, these 3 would be better as they have a clicker, whereas the Pluton definitely doesn't and I'm 92% sure the BB doesn't........(but I'm open to correction)

The BB 300 has but otherwise

The BB 300 has but otherwise yeah the TD Luna has ratchets. The Penn Inter 975LD is the pick of the bunch as been a Lever Drag setup.

The Pluton is not really suitable for PE3 unless you only need less than 150m of line and yeh, definately no ratchet!!

Ratchet

Ratchet not essential but i need to be able to hold or cast it one handed without it feeling to bulky.

Already have a 253 and 300 standard millionaire that hold 14 and 20lb tuffline xp. At the moment the 300 doesn't have the drag capacity to fish 30lb and I don't want to thrash it.

Daiwa Pluton 200H!

Mon, 2009-12-28 22:17

BJ, I own a Daiwa Pluton 200H, I agree with Chinny not a lot of standard 30lb braid can be stored (OK for close quarter fighting stuff). Very thin braid like Berkley Whiplash etc no worries as it'll hold more!

The casting is excellent, drag power awesome and comfortable for one handed work, i have mine on a G-Loomis Crankbait B/C rod!

300BB

Tue, 2009-12-29 07:29

Hi John - I have the 300Bb with pe3 and love it. Have knocked over sambo's up to 40lb with it in 100m so line cpacity is pretty good. I have used ryan's setup and it is also a cracker with the Pluton Loomis combo. I am surprised that the pluton does not hold more line than 150m of a good pe3 but the 300BB certainly does.

Only thing I will say is that the BB is getting up there in size for casting, great for lobbing live baits or bigger barra lures but too big for Jacks and tighter creeks.

Just picked up one of the new calcutta DC's and this thing feels amazing and I can't wait to hit a creek with it. Drag seems on par with the BB as well. Obviously does not hold a lot of line but enough for what I wanted.
