hi all,
i am a boat fisherman but since we sold our boat i am wondering where some good land based fishing spots are.. i would like to catch anything other than blowies(of course).
i was at avalon beach in mandurah on sunday morning and caught lots of wrasse. although i got some herring and silver bream.. this is not bad but i would like to catch more than this.... can anyone help me out?

Are you based down Mandurah way? Do you have a 4wd?

Mr Dhuie If you are south of the river try North Mole, South
Mole, Woodman's Point. North of the River try Swanbourne Drain, City Beach, Floreat Drain, or some of the marinas.

Apparently last week 22/4 son in law was
down at the woody point groyne (oppose Austal shipping) and they were bringing snapper (not quite size) so they might be bigger ones in them.

Very safe down at the Moles unless there is a big storm
There are plenty of protected areas where you can get away from any serious winds anyway. I guess you just have to be careful not to fall down between the rocks, but I certainly wouldn't say it is any more dangerous than fishing off any rock wall.

It depends on the wind and where you choose to fish there
Try on the nirth side of the wall near the light house. Throw out a mulie on a paternoster rig on your big outfit. There are some snags there but you would be a fair chance to land a tailor, salmon, skippy, stingray or shark.

You can try a range of baits if you like
Squid is always handy as you use it as a big bait, or cut it up into small peieces for herring and garfish. Burley is a real benefit to have with you.

Mr Dhuie If you have a float, put one out with a mulie
under it. You might catch a yellow tail kingy.

You don't need wire. A gaff is always handy at North Mole in
case you do hook something big. But you willprobably need someone to help you gaff a decent fish.
