Help required. Finding whiting in busso

Catching them by the bucket load in Perth was never an issue

we use them for bait up north but since being down south with all the ribbon weed in the bay, I have had some

real trouble finding any sand whiting

not wanting peoples spots, just an idea of where to try

will be from the boat

cheers

Caught some nice big sandies

Caught some nice big sandies in around 23m off Meelup so I assume it'd be the same off Busso but the baby flatties are like a plague.

Tonnes of smaller sandies in the little bays between old Dunsborough and Meelup too.

Make that 28m mark mate, just double checked. Had a few squid follow them to the surface too so worth dropping a jig down on a paternoster too

 Definitely more off Meelup

Definitely more off Meelup area than Busso. Normally around 30m mark straight out from Meelup and drift until you find a school then drop anchor.

Small sharp hooks on a peternoster works best. Get them up to 35cm too so not just for bait.

I used to fish for big sandies on the outside of the Swan wreck, in around 29-30m. And as JF’s already indicated, be ready for heaps of small flathead.

I drift for them

Fished heaps of times for sandies in the 30 metres off Meelup/Bunker Bay area, but have never done much good at anchor.  I have found that as soon as I anchored, the fish lost interest.  I have also found that in windless conditions, where there is no drift at all, I would have to cast as far out as possible then slowly retrieve.  That method always seemed to produce fish.
