Hi, new to fishing
Submitted by esrun59 on Tue, 2009-11-10 20:18
Hi all.
Myself and at least two of my little monsters are new to fishing and would like a little help with where to go and what we might catch if the fish are feeling suicidal.
We live north of the river so beaches north or south of Ocean Reef Road would be the easiest ones for us to get to.
TIA

Hi there Tia
There are a few options, but if you are taking the youngsters for a fish with you then somewhere like Pinnaroo Point would be pretty ideal. Unfortunately there has been a bit of weed down that way lately, so you might have to check it out before you decide to take your rods down.
Pinnaroo Point is a pretty reliable spot for fish like whiting and herring, and at this time of tyhe year is normally pretty good for tailr and the occasional mulloway.
Try a few different rrigs, with some smaller gear that the kids can use to catch whiting and herring, and bigger gear using mulies (pilchards) on ganged hooks for catching tailor and mulloway. Very early morning or late evening are the best times - the uideal wind is a slight south westerly.
If you need any more info - please ask away.

Thanks
Thanks, I'll keep Pinnaroo Point in mind for when I next venture out (soon I hope).
I have to correct one thing in my last post. I am more used to genealogy forums where I would sign off with TIA "Thanks In Advance". My name is actually Andy, I'll add this as my signature shortly.
I noticed a comment on a fishing tournament in East Timor, I spent 6 months there in early 2001. Some very beautiful country side and the waters looked magnificent. I don't know of anyone who managed to fish whilst there, I think our weapons would have got in the way

Whoops sorry Andy
I am old fart and I am still learning the forum lingo.
The good thing about taking your kids fishing at Pinnaroo is that it is an easy walk from the carpark and it is generally prety flat, so the kids can fish in comfort.
If you want some better fishing spots for yourself give me a yell.

HI Andy, welcome to the site. We are from south of the river and boat fish more often than landbased. But we have fished with the kids NOR at the disabled platform on the north side of Hillaries Marina, and have also beached fished at Yanchep Lagoon. We did not catch anything signigicant but it was fun to just get out there and have a go

Howdy and welcome esrun59. I
Howdy and welcome esrun59. I used to fish opposite Margaret st (which runs off W.C h'way) many years ago. Havn't been that way for a while but on an evening high tide I would target silver bream and cobbler. The odd wobbegong would show up and in a shorter cast would get whiting and herring.
The bream on light gear are great fun and I'm sure you may know to be wary of cobbler spikes.
If you head that way goodluck and post some pics.
