I think customer service has gone down the same path as common sense. Virtualy non existant.

Not suprising, had the same level of customer service there in 2008. So went to ADA in Nedlands instead, they could sense my eagerness to buy as soon as i walked in the door.

Ahh not really a fan of that shop either.

Was in a bit of a rush, carried a tank in, went to put it in the bath at the fill station and this chick eventually wombles on and says "oh no, we do all that". I said fine, go right ahead. Went back outside, washed a whole boat, came back in with another tank to fill and, despite there being three staff there, nothing had happened with my fill.

Picked up both tanks and walked out. Its a real pity, they're very conveniently located, but the service sucks so bad I'll never go back!

I don't dive (scuba ) but have started to free dive a bit. After reading that post i will never go into that shop.

I have walked out of many different stores in perth after recieving simullar treatment. ( maby cause i look like an old bogan with no money )

More than once i have left a store holding a few grand up in front of staff saying " I was going to spend all this money here today and you just stuffed up, i'm going to another store " .

Very bad service and as i said i will not enter that store , they forget the power of forums and have shot themselves in the foot big time .

Went to a certain big camera store in Canninton last week. Stood at the counter for 5 mins waiting for service. There were two sales staff at the end of the counter doing nothing and two either side of me serving customers. Didn't even get a " be with with shortly" comment. so walked out. Their loss I'm in the market for a new Lumix. So if anyone knows of a good Camera shop?. I won't tolerate shit service.

And I've never had a drama or issue ever. The owner is there heaps and I don't think they have a manager as such. Does sound bad but as I've used them for years and never had anything remote to this, maybe there's more to it.

Did your missus walk in stating she wanted to try stuff on but wasn't buying at all?

Maybe this got there back up as it does to heaps of people on this site when talking about how they do or don't buy on the Internet and support local etc etc. I recommend them without problem.

Well i went in today to have a look at there free diving fins, and was asked if i needed assistance by 2 people. Service was great, the guy was giving me tips on product care and in general was very good!

saw the Pelaj fins for $179, but there was a deal for $199 Fins,Mask,Snorkel,Mesh Net !! Saving $102

Pretty stoked with that deal, but the service has gotten better since ive last been there (few months ago.)

On the other forum it sounded like that was the case but you said it was a story you made up for her. However the way it sounds is that was the case and hence why they got their back up.

I may well have it wrong but you didnt seem to deny it-so Im a little suprized you are still ragging them? Perhaps in fairness you should put the full story here for FW members to decide?

I just read all the posts on the dive forum and I would have to agree with one of the posts from Captain Starfish.  He basically said that even if mtre9209's girlfriend did tell them her boyfriend was going to buy from another shop, they should have done what ever they could to help her out and convince her to buy from them instead.  Ie - By providing great customer service and maybe matching (or almost matching) prices???

I have been in a situation on a few occassions where I go into a store planning to just have a look so then I can see if I can find it cheaper on the net.  Sometimes I won't buy a product from a shop until I've checked other prices first anyway so I know I'm not getting ripped a new bum hole.  I will generally always go back to the shop to make my purchase if the customer service was good.  If they are more expensive than somewhere I found on the net then I will tell them and most of the time, they will match the price or get very close to it.  I don't mind spending a little bit more for good customer service.

You have to give the stores a chance but.... They have to do the same!  Or should I say - They have to give themselves a chance?

Stores you can walk into only have one advantage over an online store - Customer Service.  If they can't provide that, then what chance  have they got?  I would hope that the dive shop being talked about here re think their approach otherwise they will lose a lot of sales.  And I hope that online customers re think their approach otherwise we won't have any shops to walk into left.  Might be a little inconvenient to get your tanks filled through an online shop???

You don't want to get ripped off just for store convenience, I take the online store info in with me so they can see that I would rather buy from them, this gives them the chance to look it up if they think I am trying to shaft them. If they get close I will often buy the item, as you need to take the postage price into consideration also.

Like you guys said, someone came into the door and you can either try for the sale or burn your bridges with them and everyone else they speak to. 
 

If you want to stop people from going online provide SERVICE. It is a simple equation.
