Home Office Printer

As the title would suggest I am wanting to purchase a new printer for the home office. The usage I would classify in the low category. Dollar wise I would prefer to spend less than $300 but remain flexible. I am not really into modern technology and there appear to be many options out there. Any recommendations?

buy a $50 to $75 one from
buy a $50 to $75 one from anywhere, they do the job and are sometimes cheaper to simply replace rather than refill with ink . Ive bought 5 or more over the last 5 years or so ..all were ok. I wouldnt pay the extra for a so called better quality one as I wouldn't want to deal with any problems that might occur... not worth your time IMO

Agree with above but make
Agree with above
but make sure you get one that supports "after market" ink
the real cost is in the replacement ink. HP from memory don't.
go into a good newsagency or better still ink refiller. and ask which refills they have for the models.
refills are just as good but cost half the price.
most of the new printers you buy have ink cartridges only 25% full so you need ink very soon. (yep scam)
BTW I work from home in a home office and do plenty of printing etc.

My missus got a BROTHER LC73
My missus got a BROTHER LC73 from office works the other day, cost $180, but its got all the fruit- scanner etc.
she is a graphic designer and this one scans A3, so its a biggun, if you only need A4 there should be smaller ones cheaper than that. takes generic cartriges too

What I use at work and at home.
What I use at work and at home is a mono laser printer that supports double sided printing.
1/ Page for page a laser is much cheaper to run ink wise.
2/ I hardly ever have any need for colour, if never so the printer is black only.
3/ How much paper would you save if you printed both sides of each sheet.
At home I use the "Brother HL2270DW" its wireless, which means it is connected via the internet router,, and any printer within range can print through it.
However if you or someone in the same house uses an "Apple IPad" then I would go the next model up, which is more compatable with that device.
This printer cost me $109.0
A spare cartridge cost $121.0
When buying a printer, the cartridge the manufacturer supplies are only part full of ink. The supplied cartridge can't be re-filled. But the replacement can.
So far its performed fine.
Ink jets cost a fortune in ink, especially colour.

For got to mention.
My printer is only a printer, I use a separate scanner. There are of course the same printers available with built in scanners.
I have a separate scanner because I scan photos and slides, and want more control over the images when scanning.

Thanks for the comments guys
I should have mentioned in the original post that A3 size paper printing was preferred and this upon further investigation has narrowed the options. Currently looking at HP Officejet 7500A or Epson WF7510.

Thanks mate
a very generous offer however one I cannot accept. Shmbo has now become involved and who knows where this is going to end up. Why I ever mentioned it was thinking of upgrading from the existing and working Lexmark printer / scanner I do not know. Thanks again though.

A3 printing changes the options a bit!
I have an Epson A3 I used for CAD drawings, and still use it on my house or boat projects. I brought that about 15 years ago it cost over $6-700.
I guess ink jet is the only option, but if you still have to print out many A4 in mono then my above comments would still apply, the A3 inkjet for A3 colour and a laser for the rest.
With the cost of the A3 cartridges, I would say getting both would be the go.
