Hot water system problem

I've got an 18 month old Rheem Stellar continuous gas hws, the unit is full of hot water but I'm not getting any hot water coming out of the taps in the house.

Any body got any advice on what it might be? Lovely weekend for it too, lol.

Tried that already Johnny, most of the faults are related to the pilot light going out. My light is on and the water is hot, it's just not flowing into the house.

Sounds like the tempering vakve

Sun, 2017-07-02 06:51

Big John does your unit have one of these valves http://www.rmc.com.au/products/tempering-valves/  most likely the problem especially if you have hard water. You can try and adjust in and out and that can help but if not call a plumber to repair or replace it I would do it for you for some jigs but been in Kalbarri for the last week and staying with a mate in Gero for a couple of days.

Valve

Cheers mate, I'll go have a fiddle that again. I'm assuming that even though you can wind it in and out that internally it might be stuffed. Does that sound right?

Got a plumber coming around this morning. I wound the valve in and out, tapped it with a hammer but still no good. Hopefully its only a quick job.

For your reference

Sun, 2017-07-02 08:56

if your relatively handy (which you make your own jigs so you must be) they sell those tempering valves at Bunnings. Provided you can get the same type, it is a screw on screw off setup really.

From everything you have written, definitely sounds like the problem. Basically they are an internal spring loaded type of valve, which allows a portion of main pressure cold freshwater, to the mix with and push out the hot water from the hot water unit. Mine packed it in about 2 years ago and once they are stuffed, they are generally stuffed!

Thanks scano, I'll keep that in mind for next time. Also just found a leaking toilet so I'll get that sorted at the same time.
