How deep does 3d work

We are looking at sounders for a new boat, primarily Simrad EVO3 and Raymarine Axiom.  We are hearing mixed things about at what depth the 3d structure scan actually works.  does anyone have real world experience?

I'm running the 3D transducer

I'm running the 3D transducer on my evo 2. I dont use the 3D at all the detail is very poor ive flicked on a couple times and turned it off straight away so i can't really say ive spent alot of time with it but is not beneficial to me. The structure scan is completely opposite, incredible detail and i have successfully scanned fish and caught them in 18m of water but haven't really tried much deeper

3D structure scan

I recently upgraded to the 3d structure scan on my HDS Gen 3 and agree with Beau.

The 3d is a bit of a gimmic and don't think it's very useful other than a something to play with. Although I haven't spent a lot of time using it.

The upgrade improves the 2d structure scan massively. The differences is night and day compared to the standard version and worth it in my opinion. I have only been to 20m so far.
