How do you send a Live Bait down with it attached to a Snapper Sinker??

Hi Guys,
Just getting started using live baits.
Have started by attaching a 5/0 or 6/0 circle to the livey using the bridle method, rubber bands and a live bait needle.
What's the best way to attach it to a snapper sinker so it lets go from the sinker when hit?.

I usually slide the bigger livies...or try to cast out with standard running sinker ...What the bridle method, rubber bands and a live bait needle ...I'm intrigued ...

it is securing the hook to the fish without actually peircing the fish with the hook. its a bit complicated (the way i have been tought) the first few times, but after that its not too bad. means that the fish will survive during casting/sinking, without a hook dangling around in its spine hahah.

Thanks Leemo
Is there a way of getting the bait down off a boat using the sinker but not a running sinker??

Tough one aha! I always fish
Tough one aha! I always fish fresh bait, unless I'm fishing from a boat. Most of the time the cast will shock the fish (if its alive). Half a fresh tailor (just caught) usually works better than any live bait IMO. Another method of live baiting you can try, is by placing the circle behind the head (obviosuly not too deep) then tieing a half hitch around the tail, this was no pressure is placed on the actually incision. This will enable you to cast the live bait without a hassle.

When fishing
from a boat a lot of the guys use downriggers.
I was wondering, could you use a heavy snapper sinker instead of the downrigger??

When fishing for dhuies we often use livies on a paternoster rig.
Plenty of line to the snapper sinker.

When we've done it
we just pass the hook thought the fishes top 'lip', through it nose basically. This way it just 'swims' down and is still alive when it gets to the bottom. Most Larger predators take fish head first so hookups arn't so much of a problem.

Same, same.
I am amazed you don/t need any weight in those depths,
No trouble holding bottom, currents etc ?

Oh sorry
should have said, we just run a 3 way swivel with a short leader (20cm) to the weight (<20oz) depending on current/drift, then a longer 70cm leader to the hook. Usually a 8/0 circle. Guessing you could use an ordinary paternoster just havn't bothered.

Hey Matt
Like Man Overboard do you just use a paternoster rig, sinker on the bottom and have the livey off a three way or double loop rig.
I read somewhere, cant find the article where the attach the livey to the sinker with a rubber band or very light mono that breaks away once hit.
Also to get a herring down in say 100m plus of water I would have thought you would need some sought of weight

Now
That make sense,
that's what I was going to do. three way swivel, <20oz weight depending on the current, run a long leader with the livey.
Thanks you guys
