How far out?

I'm fairly new to boats and have recently bought my first one
I have a Quintrex Estuary Angler 4:2 with honda 25 HP 4 stroke (Radio etc) in A1 condition.
None of the manufactures can give an idea of how far out you can go in this type of rig (probably for legal reasons?). I know the weather plays a vital part but on a reasonably calm day how far out from the shore would this rig take you for fishing?

As you said the weather plays a big part, and most of all COMMON sense, no point being a cowboy on the water, get confident in your boat in waters close to home, and work out your limits, personally you have to always expect its never going to be calm all day even if when you launch in the morning its dead flat, trial and error, but always respect the sea

As per the regs
a 3.75m boat can only legally go 5nm offshore. A boat bigger than this has no "legal" restrictions other than appropriate safety gear. But common sense would be that your boat aint much bigger than the minimum size, is designed for estuary work and not open ocean work, so I reckon that 5nm limit would be a good guide to follow.
As an exapmle, the 5 fathom bank is around 3nm off garden island, so in the right weather that is an option. But the thing to remember about the 5FB is that it is a 20m deep body of water coming into a 7-8m body of water - any sizeable swell around and it can get very lumpy. I've taken my 3.75m tinny out there a few times in good weather before I got my new 5m boat.
And dont ever take the weather forecasts a gospel - things can change pretty quickly out there. If you have a gut feeling that things are about to turn nasty, get going - you are usually right. Bear in mind that with a low freeboard 25hp boat, it could be a very nervy and slow crawl home if you do get caught out in bad weather. Your boat isn't exactly powered enough to "out-run" a storm......

Good day!
On a good day, i'd take it out to the FFBank and in regards to the coastline probably 5-10nm (max)....that will get you amoungst everything and you'll be insight of land & boat traffic!

Don't forget an EPIRB if you are going to fish 5 fathom or more than 400 metres off the west side Garden Island, its illegal not to have one.

don,t forget , i,m sure u won,t work out how much u uses etc, and watch the winds,
i started of with 4.6 and gradually went further n further out.. getting to know ur fuel consumption and weather and wot the boat and crew will comfortably take.
u,ll be getting a bigger boat in a yr or 2 i can feel it already..lolo
because one always wants to go further and further...
enjoy it mate, i,m sure u can catch loads have heaps of fun, get to know the sea.

A good rule of thumb is use
A good rule of thumb is use 1/3 rd fuel getting out and save 2/3 rd fuel to get back. Generally it is wise to assume that the trip home can be a head wind thus the fuel usage rate will be twice that of the fuel used getting out. Keep that in mind mate as you will thank yourself when it does happen.
