Rock flickup onto a fiberglass hull
Hey guys, I'm a noob to the forums but think they are great source of local information so i was wondering if anyone had any tips for me.
I have a 4.7m gemini (see attached) which up until this year has only been used as a tender for the old mans larger boat (40ft Caribbean), this coming winter/spring we have been making a pretty good effort to take it down to cockburn for some squid action, we took it out to five fathom but all we caught was my mates foot (had to take him to hospital, was pretty funny).
I am wanting to take it down south to busso this weekend as its looking like a killer Sunday but am a bit worried about the rock flickup onto the fglass hull, does anyone have any tricks or hints that might help me out. Ive thought about getting some carpet and tying it up around the bow in a V but not sure about wind resistance causing problems if we dont do it properly.
Anyway if anyone has dealt with this before their help would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Stevo

Another idea i have been toying with is getting some perspex and making a V and sit that in between the bow and the winch. I have seen some utes with a whole rubber strip that runs along the back of the ute under the towing eye, pretty much sits on the road (1cm off probably), rubber is pretty expensive though.

Hey, I have ended up getting a piece of carpet to run under the first 1/4 of the hull, Mako knows a guy that can custom make a canvas type sock that goes over the bow which would be perfect but he was unavailable until next month so the carpet is just a temporary solution.
fishoreub, if you have a glass hull I would recommend getting something to cover the bow or else your gelcoat might get a bit of a working.

Interesting. I have towed my boat for many, many miles and have not had an issue with stone chips. It still has feathers stuck to it from the last trip and no number plate from a shredded tyre but protecting it from stones is not something I have ever been concerned with.

Shade cloth
Have seen heavy shade cloth, either as is or doubled up. Nice and light and wont turn into a sail like canvas or carpet.
Cheers Mick
