As matty said but I tie a length of rope to the end of the gaff, when u get a mulla up its practically dead so theres no stress gettin the gaff into it, havent tried it yet but I reckon you could gaff it from the top with a rope and gaff combo, Id hate to try climbin a ladder with a 15 kg fish in one hand. Iv seen the long gaffs at bcf, obviously two piece.

Tim, if its "practically dead" then you should be able to gently lift it up anyway as its not going to be thrashing around surely.

I have never caught one so don't know personally.

Depends how heavy it is, and what pound line your using, last thing you want to do is have a good fight with the fish and win then to try lift it with the line and have it snap and have the fish float out of reach, you'll never forgive yourself, IMO use a gaff or net
