How low will your tranny go?

Third go at the transducer install on my Dragonfly.
First location had me getting ground to about 15 knots, ONLY with two people in the back of the boat, but 6 knots with one person.
Second spot (attached) had the ground up to 9 knots regardless of where people were.
Third spot is on the flat spot just to the left. It is deep down with the bottom of the base plate sitting on the bottom of the hull. I will try this setup tomorrow.
I want to get this right as I have trouble finding ground and covering distance. 10 knots is a two hour trip to Rotto.....ain't nobody got time for that.
Am I on the right track?

Same
a mate of mine had a similar experience try to get good readings on his Dragonfly.
I think install no.5 had it reading ok to 15-18knots.

I mounted mine (Raymarine a78) closer to the centreline of the boat and low down like you have yours in the picture and it reads ground as fast a the boat can go (been up to 26 knots so far). If you have moved yours to the 'flat bit' to the left of the above picture then you will be in disturbed water from that strake. Hope it works for you though, stranger things have happened. The only propblem I find with those transducers is it tends to catch the ribbon weed on the little 'leg'. Probably why it's not supposed to be mounted so low

Something else to keep in
Something else to keep in mind.... Unless your outboard is a lh rotation the transducer should be mounted on the other side.
You want the transducer to be on the props downstroke side to minimise interference.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

It, and all of my previous
It, and all of my previous transducers were on the starboard side though due to all the patched holes on that side, I thought it would start fresh. I have it on the port side due to a ladder onthe starboard though if tomorrow doesn't work for me I will need to do a bit of work on the back of my boat as there is more silicone in it than a bucks night stripper

Dragonfly 7
Mine seems to read fine up to around 20-25 knots, will sometimes lose bottom but ive noticed it seems to be related to the automatic depth setting. If it drops out for a moment the auto depth range jumps straight to 300m+ and struggles to find the bottom again as the range keeps jumping all over the place from 1m to 300m+ while it tries to regain bottom. As soon as I set the range to manual and an appropriate depth it goes straight back to reading the bottom properly.
If I leave it on a manual depth setting I also find it drops out a lot less at speed - it's like the auto depth range loses bottom for a fraction of a second and throws the whole system off or something. Was also a bit laggy at first but upgrading firmware and keeping it in the shade seems to have fixed that, nice and snappy moving through menus now.
Other than the auto depth issue Im stoked with mine. It's light years better than the Garmin I had, was a great price and have already had some awesome results being able to clearly spot fish and structure. I took it over the Lena off Bunbury and was shocked how good the downvision worked, hit it at the right angle with steady speed and was like a photo could clearly see hand rails, door frames, individual fish etc. Great sounder for the price!
I've got it mounted pretty low on transom of a haines hunter V17R, can take a pic when I get home if you like.

I the current position
I the current position today, I would lose depth and even when stopped, it would take 30 seconds to re-find the bottom. I even went back to make sure there was no weed on it.
I will try the keel mount ( or just off to the side) and hopefully that will do it.

I saw a tranny in Dan Murphies in Kwinana today. Had me wondering until it talked.

Vibration
yiu need to watch out how far you drop the bracket , from the photo the bracket arm looks plastic and not that strong if you in visage how much pressure is on the arm when the boats moving especially at speed causing to much movement on the tranny face , maybe different bracket or even try setting the tranny up in the bottom of the hull in temp wet box to ensure that's the problem, then you will know if you should buy a through hull unit.
