I done it a few times so im no pro. Its smelly work. I got some fish heads/off cuts and layed them out on a few sheets of newspaper left it out for a day or so making sure there was plenty of flys around, once you feel the flys have done their thing loosely wrap the newspaper up and place in a bucket on top of some pollard put a lid on the bucket and wait till the little suckers crawl outta the newspaper and into the pollard. Beware lifting the lid on the bucket will knock your block off with the smell.

 Spot on although, my Pop

Spot on although, my Pop taught me to limit exposure to the flys because if you get too many laying eggs you can end up with heaps of small ones unless you have heaps for them to eat. I’m pretty sure if they were around he used to even hand catch big blowflies with a little net and slip them into the bucket with the ox heart. The big ones go on the hook better and stay alive driving the herring nuts.

Couple of tips to add to that. Make sure the bucket lid has no gaps or the maggots will crawl out and the Mrs will kill you. Remove the maggots from the first batch of pollard and put them into at least another fresh batch to get them really clean with no smell. Make sure you get them into a jar with the fresh pollard and into the fridge once they're clean otherwise they’ll form a cocoon pretty quickly.
