How much anchor chain?

Any one know what the recommendation is for how much chain to put on the end of the anchor rope and how heavy it should be?

How big a the boat?

Lenght of boat (heavy chain) is a general guide line.  10 meters will keep you out of trouble on most tubs.

Depth

Havent needed to anchor in any depth over 25m so what i have works well. If i fish deeper (which isnt often) i will just drift and use sea anchor if need be. Like uncle said i sometimes have to use the boat to free up the reef anchor.

10 mm chain

Fri, 2008-07-25 18:19

10 mm chain and 4 meters of it does my boat nice and dandy in 60 meters of water and never pulls even in a stiff sea breeze. takes alot of yanking to get it up tho and is a bitch to pul by hand (very handy to use the float retreive system). i have  a 5.2  quintrex ali.

I do alot of achoring up to 100m

The more chain the better i use 20m 6mm small link chain but thats only because i have a winch
But i used to use a float with a large ring attached and drive of let the float pull the anchor up, the chain drops through the ring and the float holds the anchor on the surface very easy
Cheers Jason
