how shit.
The missus thought she did something good for my xmas present last year, and bought me a 12 month subscription to Fishing WA magazine.
i just gotta say, that thank christ its finished.
this would have to be the worst publication circulating in the world today. not only do the things arrive 3 weeks late every month (got december edition yesterday), but i am so sick of seeing the same picture 4, 5, or even 6 times in the same edition (the cover shot is shown 4 times half page each time). posing with the same fish for 12 shots, doesnt mean you should run them all.
without fail, there is an exmouth trip where some bogan catches a trevally, or an "expos'e" on metro squid or herring. even worse, is when someone flukes a good fish, and writes an article on it, again with repetetive pictures.
the idiots have done an article in this months edition on how to catch abalone, 2 weeks after the season has already closed! seriously this is bad form. imagine some young kids reading it, going to catch some, and gettin busted by fisheries. really, really bad form.
admittingly, i was a member of the fwa forum for a while, and went to write this on their forum, but when i went to log in, my membership had expired (probably been 12 months since i was last there). i went to sign back up, and they want to charge me $49.95 for that!!! get stuffed!!! seriously, who would actually pay the $6.95 asking price for their magazine anyway? if thats what they're charging, then adam should start publishing his reel time magazine. he'll become a millionaire.
basically, i just wanted to vent my frustration at those money hungry fwa retards, and expose it for what it really is - a repetetive, uninteresting, misinforming waste of paper, designed for bum hole fisherman that dont know any better.
comments please....

Go Scotto
Im with ya all the way, I was a member for like 2 months and demanded my money back, what a waste of time.
I have not been on that site for a year or so now.
I wonder if the fishing reports are still months out of date like they used to be.
Anyone seen the show on TV this year SAD very SAD I dont know how that fella fishes with that girl Lisa screaming every time she hooks up and nearly getting pulled in.
I think I would be tossing her overboard on the next hook up.
Merry Xmas to all

Sorry
Sorry Scott but i disagree with your statements such as "basically, i just wanted to vent my frustration at those money hungry fwa retards"
Using the word retard i find is very harsh mate. Its fine to voice your opinion, but choose your words more carefully. Do you personally know any of the guys behind the scene at fwa?? i guess not....
I too got a subscription for xmas last year, but i have enjoyed reading every issue. Yes they do come late, thats something they can work on. But we are in a small state, so any WA fishing magazine should have our support... i think we are lucky with the amount of magazines we have got.
Merry xmas everyone!

actually,
wade, last time i checked, western australia was the biggest state in australia, not a "small state"?!?!? besides, that shouldnt be a reason to support it anyway. if a whale or dolphin hunting magazine was produced in wa, would you support that too?!? thats a pretty silly remark.
i used to talk to nick every week for years when he worked at allsport and tackle in ossie park, so perhaps you should check your facts before you go slagging me off. besides, its not him i'm against (however i am getting sick of seeing him and lisa on the cover with either a trevally or queenfish - probably seen that 3 to 4 times this year), it would have to be the editor/manager/etc that should be held liable here.
fair enough, possibly shouldnt have used retard, but its the best word in my vocabulary to describe my opinion.

im with you on this one
im with you on this one scott , they have a lot of cheek to ask for money to access the the forums and fishing reports which are updated very irregular IMO i probably would have said harsher words than retard but thats my opinion

thoughts
I'm a subscriber and I write occasionally for the mag, I think most of the points are valid re photos and timing... when I got the December issue in my mailbox I thought to myself - don't tell me they've actually got the January issue out a week before - but of course it was the December issue.
Had to laugh at that comment on Nick and Lisa (or Nick and Jacko) holding a queenie or a trev too, seen that type of cover too many times.
Just want to clear up some misinformation though and that is that it doesn't cost to join the forums. It costs to join the website which gets you access to a bunch of old articles, gps marks and a few other things and it's just being upgraded so subscribers will have access to stream FWA shows and I believe there will be new content. If you go to the forums page, not the homepage, you can join FOC. It's pretty quiet there atm but.
Personally none of the WA magazines really do it for me, I much prefer Modern Fishing or Fishing World but of course the local content is pretty hard to come by in those magazines. Having said that despite their issues FWA, Wangler, WAFM and Hotbite all fill a particular niche.

in my opinion
fwa used to be real good, a couple of years ago, when some of the 'elder' members (the ones with the most posts) were up and running about, but now its filled with a bunch of n00bs who know hardly anything..
as for the magazine, ive always felt it has been more orientated towards newcomers to fishing
Yeah baby

FWA
I paid $149 for Gold Membership on 5 September and it was for the following:
1. Golf Cap
2. 3 month magazine issue
3. 1 jr sub. to the web site
4. 6 DVD of Fishing WA series program with 1 extra about sambo jigging.
[ only 4 dvd's work the other 2 are empty ]
I only got the kit in Nov after several emails. don't bother phoning some computer voice says the number is no longer in use and then after help of a solicitor I got the parcel delivered at my door. Got my Dec issue of the magazine 2 days ago what a joke.
One thing is for sure I will not use them again that's why I joined this web site I gain much more from Fishwrecked thanks for that gents.
I feel calling them "a retard" is a compliment.

I also agree with what scotto is saying in regards to the content. It has gone down hill. I no longer buy the fwa mag.
However i do regularly buy the WAFM. I enjoy it alot and have found some interesting and helpfull info in it.

i do think that there is way
i do think that there is way to many stories about up north and isolated place.
but i only buy it if it has something in it that i think would b good to read lik the squidding and tailor and kg things.
the other bits about catching massive queenies and gt but i live down in perth so theres no point me wasting my monay on it.
but i think that the stories that interest me are awsome and ive learnt some good things.
cheers danno

That is Priceless!!
In regards to FWA i agree with scotto. The mag has, for the most part gone to the dogs.
I do not purchase it any more.Good mag if you want to learn how to target bread and butter species and use a bait chaser.

jeez
go back and have another read of my post russ. i dont buy it, i got a subscription given to me as a present.
the stories and so on are not good, lack content, and are boring and repetetive. i usually leave it on the toilet floor, and flick through it most mornings.
i think you might be the steroetype they're aiming at.....

I read the mags and don't
I read the mags and don't mind them but i read all the WA mags. I think they do give some direction to people just starting out and give plenty of glimpses of greener pastures further away to get the mind wandering. Agree with the repeat on the pic's but.
Hope this doesn't make me a bumhole fisherman
