Snell 7/0s on a short 100lb
Snell 7/0s on a short 100lb leader, yellow tail for bait, head down.. good luck!

Walfootrot has great advice,
Walfootrot has great advice, just look at his resaults to prove it!
If like me tho you fish away from Cockburn area where the big boys are breeding, like out from hillaries/ocean reef, I find the fish are a smaller size there so I use a bit smaller hook/line/bait combo. I like to use 5/0 snelled hooks with 40 or 60lb mono trace. And for bait I start with store brought mulies and scalies until I catch some fresh bait while out there, either whiting, herring, snook, skippy, the nice red wrasse, yellow tail, what ever you come across really. I always find fresh baits either whole, butterflied or filets work much better. And also whole baits keep the pickets away.
Another great advantage for floating baits down is having bait runner style reels, they will increase your hook up rate for sure!
Hope some of that helps

Half a mulie on 2 snelled
Half a mulie on 2 snelled 4/0 hooks on 40lb leader, unweighted works ok for me in a burly trail.
Or better yet try some plastics.
