not 100% but i think the saltiga 4500 holds a bit more line than the stella and if ya gonna be loading it up with say 40lb braid ide go which eva reel  holds the most .there all top quality so its realy a toss of a coin
always in it just the depth that varies

24kg braid on any of those reels will be pretty full on if you fish it hard(I know the stella is rated to 7kg drag). IMO you would be better off going up to 5000 sized reel....more balanced and a bit more line capacity. I would also go for a twinpower pg or hg. Half the price of the stella and just as good......almost

Stella gets my vote, but this will turn out like the others IMO.  Some say Stella and others say Saltiga.

Spess,
at those sizes i'd say its more of a 'light' reel than medium.

certate 3500HD custom will not survive 50lb pushed hard. perfect fit is 30lb... again depending on how hard you fish 30lb. but i expect such a reel wont be simply for soaking bait on lazy days on the swan. it will only just fit 300mpe 2 30lb breaking strain.

IMHO game and z4500 are different classes again in terms of size.
and 4500 is more comparable to 6000 size stella

do correct me if i am wrong, but 4000 and 5000 size shimano reels are same size, simply fractionally larger spool.

really i think perhaps it would help alot if you narrowed it down. will it be 30lb OR 50lb? as it does make a difference. a bit of net searching will tell you straight up, line capacity is a big thing, the 3 small ones will struggle to for 300m of pe3 (hence use pe2 30lb). and i can personally tell you with 50lb = alot of broken bits. 3 of those reels besides z4500 are 30lb reels. 6000 size stella and 4500 are 50lb.

i run 30lb on my stella

Wed, 2007-11-14 13:36

i run 30lb on my stella 4000fd spess, but imo i wouldnt run any heavier! still runs mint with 30lb though..
if you were pushing towards the 50lb i would go the game 3500, as a medium size reels. the z4500 is getting a little bit bigger. plus if ur thinking of getting a stella 20000 down the track then a little difference between the z4500 and 20000 but no a heap!
it all up to ur if you want to run 30lb or 50lb..
welcome to have a shot of my stella 4000 with 30lb if your keen...

cheers

vote against the 3500

Wed, 2007-11-14 14:37

maybe i just got a dud but my 3500hd has done a line roller bearing and now had the handle bearing and internals sh*t themselves in exmouth last week, also feels very hard to start up as if the oring or seal on the main shaft is binding. Going back to Daiwa this week as it has not had the sort of work I think a reel of this price should stryggle with before having these problems. My boat is also very open and fairly wet so all reels get a soaking occasionaly, but stella 8000 still feels as good as new and it is my main reel. Use it for jigging, poppers and trolling for mackies tuna etc. Knocked off a 48lb spanish last week in no time, tend not to notice how much hurt you are putting on with the smooth drag. The old man in comparison lost what we assume was a stonker of a Wahoo becasue of the rough start up on his saltiga 4500. Thing just hit and snapped, whereas both drags where set to the same startup and had released fine on the mack tuna up to 15lb before hand.
Stella 8000 would be my first pick, but only if I couldn;t find a TP 8000 HG on Ebay and save the Cash.

Yeah I agree with everyone

Wed, 2007-11-14 18:22

Yeah I agree with everyone Spess, more 30lb reels (apart for Z4500, bigger really). IMO the more comfortable reel to fish 30lb would be the Game 3500, whereas the other 3 are more suited to 20lb. I run 20lb on my Certate 4000, the 3500HD is the same reel with a PE rated spool and upgraded handle/knob.

Sam,

From my own personal experience I'd say theres a significant difference between the z4500 and the 20000.

yeh i spose there is quite a bit of difference between those reels but i rekon spess would be suited with a game 3500 as his medium reel and a 20000 stella or whateva for his big reel...the z4500 is getting outta that medium sized reel if u know what i mean

Wed, 2007-11-14 19:59

Chris I was looking at geting a 3500 game but when I looked at the difference of spool capacity compared to the z4500 the choice was simple,on the 4500 can fit 600 yards of yomoto pe4 plus backing.Yes the reel is larger and slightly heavier but I was looking at spool capacity. Each person is different in what they look for in a reel.I can still use this for jigging and also putting on my popper rod, weight did not worry me too much. They are both great reels, just need to weigh up what you are looking for.Me personally I like the saltiga's vrs the stella's but thats just my preferance.

Saltiga

Hi Spess, I was watching a fishing show on Foxtel yesterday, forget what it was called, but this guy caught a striped marlin and some massive giant trevally's on saltiga spinning reels. If I had the dosh I would be really tempted.

Thanks all for your comments....I proberly confused the hell out of most with this post but i was only asking for a reel in the 30lb class and have desided to go with the game 3500 at this stage. I had a good feel of all of them yesterday and for a light weight outfit i just couldnt go past the game. I dont think it will be getting used for anything over the 40m mark so yep im happy. Cheers for all info it was greatly appreciated.

Hi Spess

Sun, 2007-11-18 19:07

Mate have you looked at the Certate Hyper 4000, holds more line than the 3500 Game and more drag, The best bit it is a bit cheaper as well, have a look on Campbell's.

Cheers

Unfortunately the Certate

Sun, 2007-11-18 22:45

Unfortunately the Certate hyper is still a certate, they beefed up the main gear but the rest of the reel is still the same. If they really want to beef up, it needs to have the backup A/R, bigger/stronger A/R bearing, and better drag washers.
