Ice slurry

Just wondering how other guys make there salt water ice slurrys up. Ive been freezing lots of small water bottles and reusing them each time, works ok but recon there could be a better way. Some of may mates freeze a couple of ice cream tubs of sea water and add as block ice and of herd of other guys using fresh water ice and adding salt to the slurry. Anyone else got a simple way to make up slurrys cheers.

Blocks of ice from ice cream containers etc. any container will ultimately work but ones where you can tip the ice out and leave the container home are better than drink bottles etc.
then just add sea water

The ultimate is crushed ice/seawater
You don't have the weight of the blocks/container floating around banging into the fish. But of course this means buying expensive bagged ice , and you may not be able to easliy access the 15/20KG bags which are the best value. It would cost a fortune to do it with 5kg servo bags
Of course the ultimate is to have you own icemaking machine, which is something I've been meaning to investigate.

Agree crushed ice and sea water... costs me $10 for 3 5kg bags when I do it that way. For ice blocks go down to your nearest ice cream shop and grab some of the empty ice cream containers they use (the silver rectangle ones) grab the lids and they are stackable. Should get them for free or at the most cost you 50c each.

Might give both those ideas a go, thinking about freezing sea water in dispossable lunch containers and re use the containers there about 300 or 400ml each. Weve got an ice machine at work and theres no issue taking a couple of bags for the next day but most the guys tell me to only use salt or sea water ice on ur salt water catch. Dont know if the ice matters but definatly noticed a difference if fresh waters used when filleting fish

Fresh water ice and mix with sea water. The way you put fish in your box also matters. Bigger fish like a decent dhu are best to be sat upright in the slurry not on there sides as you can end up with one fillet that will be quite red and bruised looking. Spiking and bleeding your fish properly head first in a bucket of seawater also helps and keeps blood out of the slurry. I like to leave fish overnight if possible in slurry I find they fillet much cleaner as the flesh has set properly. Ice machines at work are the go. If its free grab it.

Gilly's onto it, the ice will keep longer till you need it. I use my iki jime spike to break the ice up.
Don't use seawater for ice as it'll be too cold and you could freeze your fish/crabs

Unlikely you will freeze
Unlikely you will freeze fish/crabs as you say. There is only 2degs difference between water and sea water when frozen. So water will freeze at 0degC and sea water at -2degC. If both in the freezer they will both be at the same temperature (of the freezer). When you make a slurry probably find the temp would be the same or similar (1-3deg).

We use 2ltr ice cream
We use 2ltr ice cream containers frozen fresh water leave them in the kill box until you catch something then pour in a couple of buckets of salt water works great . When we get home i will put our catch in the freezer for another 10 20 mins while we have a beer they go a little hard which i find easier to fillet rather than soft and mushy.never had them freeze with salt water in fact i reckon salt ice water slurry hard to beat.
