caught this in the swan on a hardbody lure, actually caught 2 of them.
it looked too silvery to be a bream to me ...

pattern, check that out for starters, and no spot on the side plus Silver is the dominant shade not a dull yellow that bonys carry.

It's definitley a Silver
It's definitley a Silver biddy / Roach (Gerres subfasciatus).
As squidder said, bony herring look very different.
In almost 20 years of fishing the Swan i'd never caught one, but had heard of people catching them ocassionaly. Then last year I caught at least 10-15 of them whilst bream fishing. They must be getting more aggressive haha.

In my Fishing book they are
In my Fishing book they are classified as a bait species (probably because they dont grow much more than 30cm or so), so I ASSUME that they would be a good bait
