anyone know what sort of bird this is?
i was out in the boat with a mate on friday night and it crashed into me, it couldn't fly anymore so i took it home.
it's still alive and starting to move around a bit, i fed it some sambo and some polard.
not sure if it ate much of it, but it made a decent mess.

Forked Tail Stormy petrel
Not sure but it could be a fork tail stormy petrel better known amonst fishos as a "Jesus Christ bird from the way they appear to walk on water
Added Forked tail to the original storm petrel title as its different from the normal stormy petrel by weighing in about a third less

Saw a heap of them on Saturday when out in the boat. Dont know what type they are but they look neat the way they dip up and down feeding off whatever they eat.
Look like some sort of swallow.......
Hope it survives and you are able to release it.
EDIT........I think carvarvonite is on the money...Stormy Petrel for sure

are you sure it could no longer fly??
Had them land on deck numerous times and without wind they cant fly. They just flutter around the deck. It seems like they rely on some kind of uplift to get them back flying. As soon as you lift them above the gunnel rail they sail away no problem.
What happened to the bird?

southcity it flew straight into my face then dropped down onto the deck, it couldn't fly away and looked like it had hurt its leg.
