Identify this fish...

Had a school of these bad boys come through on the 3 mile early Saturday morning.
Never caught these before. Are they some sort of mackeral? Couldnt get a match with anything from the fish ID guide.

Ha! Yeh, when the wind shifted from southerly to easterly i ended up sitting right in your burley trail... I did feel a bit sorry for ya when i was having a ball on those bonito and you were sitting back with your line all slack n stuff! .... Oh well, next time :)

Caught plenty last week out from mindarie on a 7wt fly rod last week Saturday. Apprently more of a nothern species. We also caught a stripped tuna (not on fly). Tried again yesterday but they were'nt there.
Where on the 3 mile were you guys?

Not far from the south
Not far from the south cardinal out from Trigg. They came through in a school and went nuts for about half an hour, smashing pilchards as I brought them up through the water column.

Watson's Leaping Bonito - Cybiosarda elegans
Watson's Leaping Bonito have a light silver blue belly with several grey stripes and a deep blue back covered with elongated spots. The first dorsal fin is black and second dorsal fin and anal fin are yellow. The mouth is large with the upper jaw reaching to the hind margin of the eye.
Watson's Leaping Bonito grow 1.2kgs and 54cms in length.
They are considered average eating.
In Australia, Watson's Leaping Bonito are found from Geographe Bay Western Australia around the northern coast and south to New South Wales.
