Honestly its probably not far
Honestly its probably not far off the money. $150 for the HR unit.Plus cabling from battery to unit, brake to unit and unit to trailer and straight charge feed. Would be a few hours work.
Theres a few autosparks on here that may have better pricing idea than me.

Same unit
I purchased a trailer with a carlisle brake unit, had a few issues right from the start using it on my vehicle.
Wiring from the unit to trailer plug and the earthing on the vehicle had to be sorted. Cost $300 which I thought was reasonable.
If you can find anyone that is an expert on the Carlisle stuff in Perth your doing better than I did.

$500
I just paid $500 to get one fitted two a Nissan pathfinder. I got it fitted before taking the car so that it was included in the 3 year warranty. To be honest I didn't even shop around for a better price though.

Silly question
Probably a stupid question, but, do you always need a separate brake control unit for electric brakes?
I always thought that they were only to adjust the sensitivity.
sounds like something I need to look into!

yeah, rule is that the brakes
yeah, rule is that the brakes must be able to be manually controlled from the drivers position

Yes you do, otherwise your brakes won't work properly haha. They do adjust the sensitivity too, can be used to stop trailer sway etc etc. Some units just plug into cigacrette lighter but

If it came into our workshop
If it came into our workshop it probably would be about $400 supply and fitted with a tekonsha voyager unit including a hot wire.

Mate, I am in the process of
Mate, I am in the process of doing this as well....toa Land Rover Discovery 3, and let me tell ya, there is no harder car to do it to, as it has Euro 7 pin plugs and Euro trailer wiring, fancy reverse sensors and blown globe detectors that get all confused with Oz wired trailers. Throw in LED lights on the trailer that look like a blown globe to the almost smart Disco and a Yank built trailer with almost Ozzie wiring and the perfect storm is here......
I bought a Tekonsha P3 brake controller online, $159 delivered via ebay, after looking at lessor units for $350 in Oz......The Tekonsha P3 is top of the wazza with fancy inbuilt motion detection that proportionsthe brakig to the trailer more the more you brake, as opposed to the normal fixed amount of braking that is only manually adjustable that most use (Hayman, Redarc etc). This was a key function for me as the boat will weight over 3 t, so I wanted good trailer control, not just one/off braking.
Only issue is its a bit big, but I can fit it in where the ashtray is for a neat look. Need to chnage a bit ofthe Euro wiring in thre car and make up a LED light resistor/relay box to trick the Disco into thinking the LED lights are not blown.
Doing it all myself, not hard, just a bit of time and google research....remeber, there is always a guy out there with more time and brains than you out there. All up about $220 fitted including the unit for top of the range unit with a lot of mods.
PM me if ya want some details.

Interesting we had no major
Interesting we had no major drama's with the disco 3, just grabbed a different plug outlet & no dramas with the ebd or led's on the trailer etc

Na John you are correct, A
Na John you are correct, some of the time(but not always ) you will need a pulse shunt on your leds to fool the disco or a load resistor. And with cars like the D3 with CANBUS system the brake feed should be taken from the trailer socket harness (unless there is a special connector for the controller) or it can cause issues.
And yes i love my 60 series cruiser for working on, but you cant go back once you make the change to something newer!
Good Luck !

Tekonsha Prodigy P3
I would be going for the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 as well. A very easy unit to use once it is set up.
Havent used the Hayman and Reese but just do quick google on the P3. It gets great reviews.
I did then the best that I knew how. When I knew better, I did better.

You make it sound so hard
You make it sound so hard john haha. None of those issues with a 80 series! I mounted my p3 in the centre console too, great unit.

Vinesh87, I dream of an 80
Vinesh87, I dream of an 80 series sometimes, the Disco can be a bit quirky at times, but once you drive one it's hard to go back to a Cruiser...... Until it breaks down that is.....haha.
Yeah, normally the brake controller install is dead easy.

Redarc
Just last week I had a Redarc electric brake contoller fitted to my 100 series turbo diesel Landcruiser. Its matched to the Carlisle Hydrastar. Very compact unit that fits neatly in the dash instrument panel just below the sub tank switch. Cost me $570 to supply and fit, including removing my SensaBrake in car kit plus wiring to both my 7 pin plug and rectangular plug. In retrospect, sounds a bit expensive, but it's only a fraction of the cost of my new aluminium trailer so I didn't shop around.

The other way to get around
The other way to get around all this problem of finding a place to fit a controller is use a remote head one. They look so much smarter and much more pratical on later model cars with less and less places to put them like the 200series sahara you cant put one down by your leg because it has a knee airbag there.

Yeah, remote head unit from
Yeah, remote head unit from redarc is really nice but does not have proportional braking like the Temonsha P3. Form over function, but a good option for lighter boats as install is much nicer.

I had issues with airbags
I had issues with airbags everywhere, so in the end i mounted it in the centre console, neat and out of the way! A fair bit of stuffing around but!

Cruiser -a lot of stuffing
Cruiser -a lot of stuffing around to fit the unit neatly between the steering coloumn and radio (the bottom part of the console)
Troopy -two self tappers straight into the dash! hahah -gotta love the simplicity of the troopy! (not so much the ride...)
:-)
