If you want a good laugh

Go moor your boat up at rotto just south of where the sawimmers come in.... Grab a beer and watch people wreck outboards, boats & themselves in general. Ive never seen in my life a more comical 3 hours of boating. Or just do the swim. Will be doing it every year from now on just for a laugh.

Highlights from the day were watching

bilge pumps working from 4-10km line,. at least 50L came out of one 5M boat

4 props bent from reef in rotto

3 snapped anodes

one guy getting first aid from anchor to head

3 x boats hitting the little reef at rotto

the boat that topped it was the guy that parked his glass 30 footer on top if it. Ropper effort that one.

Got the best kick from listening to all the comments on the radio about the shark sighting.

 The shark comments alone

Sun, 2018-02-25 19:32

The shark comments alone were worth publishing. Even had the girls swimming crack up & it wasn’t a reef as such, more just rocks before the beach (about 8m from the sand)

Sun, 2018-02-25 19:47

Only saw video on the news, heard mention of a "rogue wave over the back"  someone take a big slop through an open transom door?

Missed all the action

Mon, 2018-02-26 05:53

We were at the tail of the field so we avoided most of the action.  Still saw a few occasions where boats inadvertently came too close to swimmers, and a number of vessels not part of the race cut straight through the swim channel.

Some of the radio comments were equal parts hilarious and scary:

”This is team xxx, we need assistance”

”Can you give us your location?”

”About 8km from Rotto”

Another guy, amidst the shark sighting, several calls for help with failed engines, and the search for a spurious EPIRB signal, made a request for sea rescue to pick up a crew member who was seasick.
