Impeller replacement

Hi all hope you had a great Christmas!
I fired up my 5hp Yamaha outboard that I use for my inflatable dinghy and there is no water coming from the tell-tale using the hose and muffs. Is this likely to need an impeller replacement? Is that a difficult job as I've never done one before. Is theer any other reason why it would not be working like does the hole sometimes block? Was thinking of going to Rotto tomorrow but not unless I'm confident that I wont cook the motor!
The next thing is where to get one on a public holiday!

Try it in a bucket fully
Try it in a bucket fully submerged to depth. Some outboards wont run off muffs or dont run well on muffs . That will tell you if the impeller is gone. It is pretty easy changing impellers if you are handy with tools. You can buy them online.

Sometimes they pick up sand
Sometimes they pick up sand and crap when you get to the shore which hardens when the salt water dries. Poke a wire up and see, if it doesn't fix it dont run it too long without cooling water (less than 15 sec OK). Not difficult to replace the impeller but I suggest a bit of you tubing and manual downloading, don't fancy your chances of getting parts before Wednesday

As PBS said, but instead of
As PBS said, but instead of wire I've found a length of heavy whipper snipper cord works well. Unlikely to be impeller, that would be a gradual thing, not be OK one day but not the next. Fire the motor up and then feed the cord into the water discharge hole working the cord back and forth as you go. This has worked for me on a couple of occasions

pull the cowling off and
check where the tell tale connects to the block of the motor and pull the pipe off there and see if any water comes out.
wasps and insects can clog up tell tales if you haven`t used the motor for a while
