Inadvertent capture
Went out chasing crays on 3 mile last Friday. Not a great deal of success. First drop no crays spotted on my behalf but first ledge had a flathead @ A touch under 45cm so that made its way into the loop and then found my knife and catch bag.
10/15m or so further along and a fox fish popped its head up forms look. It also found itself dealing with my loop knife and catchbag. A touch under 33cm.
Another 20 or 30 meters and a larger fatter one came to check out my loop knife and catchbag and rendezvoused with its mates. A touch under 38cm.
Swam back tonthr boat to refresh and change locations.
2nd dive in a bit shallower saw a few crays but very skittish. Mainly kakkas. Ended up missing a couple of crays and putting one in the bag.
Wasn't no keg dhuie or record breaking but a nice feed and welcome surpise

Best leaving them on ice or in the coldest part of the fridge overnight to firm up the flesh. I usually batter or crumb them. I reckon they are pretty good, but the skin is horrible and rubbery.

Mixed results on fox fish
Mixed results on fox fish fillets curling up. Last patch slightly. Not overly when cooked but not as much as wirrah.
Catching things with shares can also be a mixed bag. I personally find fish personal. As much as that sounds cliche.
Some dhufish skitter and scatter as soon as they see you. Same with crays. "Whoa what's that???" Kind of thing.
Fox fish are inquisitive generally and potter about waiting for a cray leg. Flathead esconch themselves on the bottom til their critical mass point of aversion. Once they go quite often they're off. Not always.
In terms of loop, put it in front of them in the direction they are travelling. Then release, dispatch and move to catch bag.
As above some easy some not. Depends on the creature. One of those things choose your angle and go.
Free diving I've only got cuttlefish occies and crays with success. Fish are quicker than me and dive deeper than i can breathe in a hurry
